Job DescriptionSalary: POSITION OVERVIEW The Operations Training Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive training program to ensure WETTs operations personnel, including System Operators, SCADA Analysts, and Field Technicians, are fully prepared for both routine duties and emergency situations. This role manages all training needs within the Operations group, including KPA safety support, NERC certification requirements, SCADA platform proficiency, and real-world grid operations. Responsibilities include leading onboarding and progression training, developing and delivering technical content, managing simulation exercises, and providing instruction on operational procedures. Beyond operator training, the role also supports WETTs Field Technician Apprentice Program by ensuring new field personnel receive role-specific instruction to build required skills and knowledge. The coordinator is also responsible for training related to synchronous condensers, covering their operational role. This position works closely with the Operations Manager and other department leads to ensure operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and consistent training across all functional areas. The role is based in Austin, TX and reports to the Operations Manager. DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Coordinate cross functional training plans and requirements for system operations, field operations, and operations engineering., • Ensure all operational North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) obligations have proper training content, frequencies, and documentation retention., • Develop and lead training programs for current and future system operators focused on real-time grid operations, outage coordination, voltage/reactive control, contingency response, and emergency procedures., • Administer training content for the field operations apprentice program, including classroom modules, on-the-job learning, and safety-specific instruction tailored to junior technicians., • Design and develop training content on synchronous condenser operations, startup/shutdown procedures, and routine maintenance requirements in collaboration with field operations., • Coordinate onboarding and progression training for new personnel through classroom instruction and on-the-job instruction where applicable., • Design and deliver in-person, computer-based, and simulation-based training scenarios using tools such as OSI Monarch SCADA, iTOA, and ERCOT platforms to replicate real-world operating conditions., • Organize and conduct emergency drills including Black Start exercises, and severe weather response training., • Monitor and maintain NERC CEH records to ensure System Operators meet training hour requirements and remain eligible for recertification., • Coordinate SCADA training through AspenTechs Training University., • Evaluate training effectiveness through performance tracking, scenario reviews, and skills assessments., • Identify gaps and recommend improvements., • Coordinate with vendors and third-party training providers to procure and schedule in-person or online training that meets WETT, NERC, ERCOT, and PUCT requirements., • Attend and participate in ERCOT working groups (e.g., OTWG, OWG, BSWG) to stay current on operational guidance and industry training practices., • Develop, revise, and deliver instruction on operational procedures including SOPs, Black Start Plan, GMD Plan, and Loss of Primary Control Center Plan. Maintain development records and ensure timely approval and submission to applicable entities., • Support interna operations NERC compliance by developing training content, ensuring documentation readiness, and participating in activities that test, measure, and validate operational compliance., • Provide WETT Compliance with supporting evidence (e.g., records, reports, analyses); respond to audit inquiries; and participate in audit meetings and interviews as a subject matter expert., • Perform User Security Administration activities for ERCOT digital certificates for WETT users., • Maintain a schedule of compliance and training deadlines and communicate upcoming requirements to relevant Operations personnel. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS • Education:, • High school diploma is required., • Certificates & Licenses:, • Current or previously held NERC Transmission Operator (TO) or Reliability Coordinator (RC) certification strongly preferred., • Skills and Experience:, • Minimum 10 years work experience in transmission system operations or field operations is required., • Previous background in transmission construction or safety preferred., • Ability to quickly comprehend and use computer-based systems for content management, data entry, tracking, and workflow management., • Strong knowledge of NERC Standards, ERCOT protocols and operating guides, and PUCT operational requirements applicable to control room operations., • Experience as a Transmission System Operator, Operations Trainer, or Shift Supervisor preferred., • Experience with key operational tools including OSI Monarch SCADA, AspenTech, iTOA, Grid Geo, and ERCOT outage scheduling platforms., • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey critical information across all organizational levels., • Skilled in developing and delivering operator trainingboth in-person and onlineincluding material creation, record management, and training evaluation., • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), including creation of data visuals such as charts, tables, and presentations., • Ability to track multiple concurrent projects and maintain control of associated documentation., • Ability to interpret standards and translate written requirements into operational policies, procedures, and documentation., • Competencies:, • Strong communication across all levels of the organization and across departments, • Organized approach to training delivery and recordkeeping., • Effective time and deadline management., • Clear and professional documentation habits. JOB PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES While this position does not directly transition into a supervisor role, the experience gained can help prepare the employee for future leadership opportunities within the operations department or broader organization. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Majority of work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to travel for external meetings and conferences and work a DuPont-style rotating shift schedule consisting of 12-hour day and night shifts as needed. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages, and other items, walk short distances, climb stairs, and remain sedentary for extended periods of time. Other Physical Requirements: during field visits to Big Spring, TX, candidate must be able to wear steel-toed boots, protective eyewear, high visibility vest, hard hat, and hearing protection. Ability to drive and travel by car for long periods of time is required. Some field visits to Big Spring, TX will be required. Approximately twice per year the Operations Training Coordinator will be required to travel to Big Spring. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in WETTs corporate office located in Austin or WETTs back up control center in Dripping Springs. Noise level is usually quiet but can be moderate in other situations. Conditions may vary when visiting the Big Spring site. Refer to the physical requirements above.
