American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Oncology Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Wilmington, North Carolina. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Oncology, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 05/26/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: May 26, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Inpatient Med/Surg Oncology unit with a primary patient population of medical-surgical patients with oncology history, • Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, overdose, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin drips, • Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection is performed on this unit, • Target patient ratio is 1:6, though ratios may increase during periods of high census, • Daily census of 42, • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), • Every other weekend required, • Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; any called-out shifts must be rescheduled, • Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas, • EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis, • 13-week minimum contract; extensions up to 26 weeks are acceptedRequirements, • Active NC or compact RN license required, • Current BLS certification required, • Oncology certification (ONC or equivalent) required, • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, • Inpatient hospital experience required, • Required skills: Med/Surg, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin drips, insulin, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac, • Must be able to administer chemotherapy if needed, • Must pass EKG testing prior to start, • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor are required prior to start, • Preferred: CPI certification, charge nurse experience, OCN certificationAdditional Information, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a local pay rate, • Former permanent, PRN, or employee pool staff of this health system must wait 12 months before being eligible to apply as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required, • Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts); no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation, • Pre-start modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) and must also be completed annually, • Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval, • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays, • Contract staff are assigned to Storm and/or Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters, • Travel pairs are allowed, but each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with potentially different schedules, • Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
