About the Role Horton & Mendez is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant to support the day-to-day management of workers’ compensation cases and help ensure our clients receive organized, responsive, and compassionate service throughout their claims process. This role plays a key part in coordinating case activity, maintaining communication with clients and medical providers, and ensuring each matter moves forward efficiently. The ideal candidate combines strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and client-centered communication with a working knowledge of workers’ compensation procedures. You will work closely with attorneys, case managers, and other team members to support the progression of claims from intake through resolution, helping ensure clients feel informed, supported, and confident in their representation. This role carries a high degree of ownership. The Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant balances case administration, client communication, and documentation accuracy while helping maintain the quality and efficiency of the department’s workflow. What You’ll Do • Assist attorneys and case managers in the day-to-day management of workers’ compensation cases, • Maintain accurate and well-documented case records in the firm’s case management system, • Communicate with clients regarding case updates, appointments, and documentation needs, • Coordinate medical records, treatment updates, and communication with providers, • Assist with preparation and filing of workers’ compensation forms and documents, • Track deadlines, hearings, and case milestones to ensure timely follow-up, • Monitor benefits such as TTD/TPD payments and notify the team of discrepancies, • Prepare case summaries and documentation for attorney review, • Coordinate scheduling of IMEs, depositions, mediations, and other case-related appointments, • Maintain organized electronic files and ensure documentation is complete and current, • Collaborate across the firm to ensure smooth case progression and client service How This Role Creates Impact • Clients feel supported and informed throughout their workers’ compensation claim, • Case files remain organized, complete, and ready for attorney review, • Medical records, benefits tracking, and documentation are managed efficiently, • Deadlines and filings are monitored to support strong case management, • Communication between clients, attorneys, and medical providers remains consistent, • The workers’ compensation department operates smoothly as case volume grows What We Are Looking For • 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant, case manager, or administrator in a workers’ compensation or personal injury practice, • Strong understanding of workers’ compensation processes and documentation, • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail, • Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities in a fast-paced environment, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Experience communicating with clients, medical providers, and insurance adjusters, • Ability to maintain accurate records in CRM or case management systems, • Professional discretion in handling confidential client information, • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and team members Bonus Points • Prior North Carolina workers’ compensation experience, • Familiarity with IC forms, medical record coordination, and benefits tracking (TTD/TPD), • Bilingual in Spanish, • Experience with Filevine or similar legal case management platforms EEO Statement We are committed to hiring the best people for the job, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
