Job DescriptionDescription: Weitz Investment Management currently offers a hybrid work environment (2-days remote/3-days onsite) for this position. The Operations & Accounting Specialist is responsible for day-to-day operational oversight of the Funds' outsourced service providers, including the middle office provider, accounting provider, sub-administrator, custodian, and prime broker. This role also manages the accounts payable and fixed asset systems and supports time-sensitive processes across daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual workflows. In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Operations & Accounting Specialist exercises independent judgment to identify, escalate, and resolve operational issues, while maintaining consistent and timely communication with internal stakeholders, outsourced providers, custodians, and the client relationship team. The position requires a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and documentation discipline. Essential Functions • Communicate directly, and on behalf of the CFO and other stakeholders, on matters related to mutual fund operations, separate account operations, and accounts payable., • Manage the day-to-day relationship with outsourced providers, including detailed review of daily cash flows related to shareholder activity, trade settlements, expense payments, and issue resolution., • Coordinate liquidity measurement with outsourced providers and lead Weitz Liquidity Committee activities, including planning, coordinating, chairing meetings, and maintaining meeting documentation in coordination with the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO)., • Manage the end-to-end workflow for external security pricing inquiries, including intake and escalation to the Pricing Committee, tracking committee responses and outcomes, and documenting all pricing overrides, challenges, exceptions, and supporting rationale in accordance with record retention requirements., • Manage the class action process, including communication with current and past custodians to obtain and evaluate records, completion of required documentation, and timely submission to meet filing deadlines., • Manage the accounts payable process, including communication with vendors, invoice review, timely approvals and payments, and accurate allocations across Funds and corporate entities (including departments and business lines)., • Manage the employee expense reimbursement system, including communication with employees and the software and global payment vendors., • Maintain records of payments to third-party intermediaries, including preparation of board reporting to support compliance with applicable SEC regulations and best practices., • Under the supervision of the CFO, oversee the fixed asset inventory system, including research of current GAAP and tax guidance for new asset types., • Ensuring the accuracy of N-PORT information, website data files, schedules of investments, financial statements, and related footnotes., • Respond to external audit requests and completion of external questionnaires as needed., • Support other operational functions, including providing back-up support to outsourced trading and OMS relationships, as needed., • Perform projects, special assignments, and other duties as assigned. Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or equivalent work experience., • Five or more years of experience in mutual fund accounting and or middle and back office operations, preferred., • Strong computer and database skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office., • Ability to quickly learn new software applications and online services., • Ability to leverage technology to improve efficiency and workflows., • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy., • Excellent communication and organizational skills; including the ability to manage time effectively, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and identify, escalate and resolve issues.
