Job Description We are looking for an energetic and safety-conscious individual who has several years of work experience and is ready to continue their career with a fast-paced, high-growth, trucking company. We are seeking an experienced Heavy Haul Truck Driver to join our specialized logistics team. This role involves transporting heavy equipment, oversized loads, and out-of-gauge freight using RGN (Removable Gooseneck) and lowboy trailers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hauling over-dimensional loads and be comfortable navigating complex permits, routes, and load securement requirements. This person will be driving to and from the VA Ports (VIG, NIT) and rail lines, and will have an active CDL- A license and TWIC card. The successful candidate will have a great work ethic and know how to safely operate heavy equipment as well as chaining and binding. Most work is local and person will be home in the evenings with their family. Salary is commensurate with skill level and experience. Our truck drivers are responsible for transporting goods from one location to another. Their job duties include securing loads, safely transporting loads, and abiding by traffic laws, while ensuring that they maintain a current driver’s license and TWIC card. Duties include: • Operate RGN and lowboy trailers to transport heavy machinery, construction equipment, and over-dimensional loads across regional and national routes., • Safely operate a tractor-trailer vehicle to transport goods to and from Virginia Ports and rail lines (most trips are local to the Portsmouth VA area with occasional OTR required), • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and report any issues or malfunctions to the office manager., • Plan and execute routes based on size and weight restrictions, bridge laws, and permit requirements., • Secure loads properly using chains, binders, tarps, and other equipment in accordance with company policies and legal standards., • Follow all applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards governing the transportation of goods., • Communicate effectively with Terminal Manager, customers, and other team members to coordinate pick-up and delivery schedules and address any issues that arise., • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and hours of service., • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, vehicle maintenance, and customer service., • Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle, both inside and out, and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. · High school diploma or GED · Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record and DOT medical card · HAZMAT endorsement a plus · Heavy hauling and over-dimensional/out-of-gage experience is required · Smart phone or computer experience is required · Must be able to pass a background check · Must be able to physically stand, sit, move, squat, walk, and climb during the course of the shift · Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds or more above your head · Occasional night and weekend work will be needed · Excellent verbal and written communication skills · Able to work in a fast-paced environment · Able to work independently and with a team · Understand DOT safety requirement and if HAZMAT certified, hazard material handling and transport requirements · Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. · Good knowledge of local roads and highways, as well as federal and state transportation regulations. · Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair. · Excellent time management and organizational skills. · Attention to detail and a strong work ethic. Working Conditions: • This position requires working outdoors and in various weather conditions, including the heat and cold., • Physical requirements include lifting and moving heavy cargo, as well as standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders., • This position may require sitting for extended periods and working long hours, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.Company DescriptionWe are a transloading business- storing and draying cargo and shipping containers to and from the Ports of Virginia.
