GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Master Machinist 2 is highly experienced and independently operates a wide variety of CNC machines which may include: CNC Mills, CNC Lathes, Vertical Machining Centers, grinders, CMM etc. with limited supervision. These Utility Machinists are expected to run 2-5 machines simultaneously and understand all aspects of set up and precision measuring across the shop. They also train other operators, programmers, engineers, and machinists. They are capable of creating one off proto-type parts and fixtures with no direction or formal drawings based on knowledge and judgement. REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED required. 10+ years CNC experience or on-the-job training to include completion of 2-year Machine Technology certificate Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure including decimal fractions. Read mechanical drawings/blueprints including GD and T codes Vision and depth perception suitable for use of inspection microscopes. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to either stand or walk for extended periods. Ability to mentor, train or lead other Operators and machinists successfully Excellent communication skills Must pass criminal background check and drug screen. Eligible to work in an ITAR environment ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES \n • Set up and runs CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjusts machine controls or indicators as required. This includes tool offset adjustments using a variety of controllers (Haas, Fanuc, Okuma etc.).\n, • Measures, mark, and/or scribe dimensions and reference points on parts. Will review technique cards and customer specific work orders continuously for changes and may assist in creation. May create technique cards or approve the work of others.\n, • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers to maintain .0005 tolerances.\n, • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine controls. Uses proper procedures for editing codes or machine applications.\n, • Documents all instances and circumstances of scrapped parts or machine issues, utilizing proper forms and pass down reports. Communicate effectively with peers on and off shift to ensure continuous effective machine utilization.\n, • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications and completes independent First Article Inspection reports. Read prints and inspect parts for conformance in accordance with ISO 9001. May troubleshoot and review work of other machinists.\n, • Trained on CMM and/or optical comparator. Routinely works with precision measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges to ensure GDT quality checks. May measure parts for operators or less experienced team members and train others.\n, • Reports machine failures for self and other workers, non-conformance, spills, accidents, EHS concerns and maintenance requests immediately.\n, • Participates in P5S initiatives; keep machinery clean and machine area clear of debris. Address spills, gauges, and sensors immediately. Models safe and orderly work habits.\n, • Performs basic preventative maintenance on machines daily and records. This includes cleaning and checking oil, coolant etc.\n, • Adhere to all safety programs including PPE and safe operating practices. Model and train others on departmental safety procedures, JSAs and directives.\n, • Cross trained on multiple machine types including 3 and 5 axis CNC machines and diamond tooling. Ability to calculate complex dimensions to meet tolerances and apply G and M codes and GD and T. Troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose and complete minor machine repairs without assistance.\n, • Will work on proto-type parts and new specifications with limited instructions or established procedures. Ability to write, test, edit and troubleshoot programs as assigned. Uses wide scope of independent knowledge and experience to machine or develop new process. Ability to use CAD-CAM software to make parts.\n, • Able to use SolidWorks to design tooling and fixtures.\n, • Communicates and interacts effectively with production management, engineers, and quality team to make departmental improvements. Makes innovative suggestions for improvements. Applies excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.\n, • Assume other projects as assigned by engineering and/or supervisor based on advanced skill set.\n, • Models accurate reporting, safety, and company philosophy.\n\n Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
