WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Our Medical Directors deliver consultation, education and oversight of transfusion medicine to ensure safe execution of programs and increase knowledge within and outside of the Red Cross. Promote and provide patient services, coordinate medical communications, and develop and implement medical policies and procedures. Develop new theories and solutions, conduct research of emerging topics and provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers. Direct patient service programs including but not limited to therapeutic apheresis, stem cell collection and processing, perioperative autologous cell salvage, and patient blood management., 3. Direct the medical aspects of regulated blood center operations including collections, donor management, recipient adverse reactions, suspect product investigations, and other operational systems., 4. Participate in the development of procedures, policies or position statements on medical criteria for donor eligibility and safety, component quality, and transfusion practice., 5. Serve as CLIA Laboratory Director for regulated collection activities, immunohematology laboratories, HLA laboratories, stem cell collection and processing, and/or national testing laboratories., 6. Investigate concerns and complaints related to donor complications, recipient transfusions, customer service, or hospital relationships including necessary notification of Leadership by interacting with the Donor and Client Support Center to ensure timely completion, documentation and reporting. WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED Education: M.D. or D.O. degree with post-graduate training/specialization in blood banking/transfusion medicine required. Must currently be board certified or eligible in internal medicine, pediatrics or clinical pathology. Board certified or eligible in blood banking/transfusion medicine or equivalent is highly desirable. Current state licenses, certifications, and specialty boards may be required. Experience: Minimum 10 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Experience in blood banking/transfusion medicine, blood center operations, or medical/scientific research is desired. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in immunohematology, including red cell serology, antibody identification, and compatibility testing, is required. Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images (photographs) of patient's body for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties. Duties • Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures and request removal of metal objects which are hazardous to patient and equipment when magnet is activated., • Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist., • Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination., • Enters data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer., • Keys commands to specify scan sequences, and adjust transmitters and receivers, into computer., • Observes patient through window of control room to monitor patient safety and comfort., • Views images of area being scanned on display screen to ensure quality of pictures., • Proficient in MRI Safety, knowledge of MR Zones., • Maintains patient care, comfort and safety during the exam., • Maintains technical competency through continued education and participation in training programs., • Under guidance and approval of site Radiologist, administers contrast agents according to site-specific protocols., • Cooperates with facility healthcare personnel and complies with facility policies and procedures., • Maintains current licensure to Practice in all states in which services are performed., • Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems.
