Job DescriptionJob Title: Plastic Fabrication and Welding Specialist Job Description The Plastic Fabrication and Welding Specialist fabricates and welds complex plastic parts to precise drawing specifications, supporting both production and prototype manufacturing. This role combines advanced hands-on fabrication skills with strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities, including training others and collaborating directly with customers on technical questions and prototype opportunities. Responsibilities • Fabricate and weld complex plastic parts in accordance with engineered drawings, specifications, and quality standards., • Identify and weld a wide range of plastic materials, including WPP, NPP, all PVC materials, FRPP, PE, polycarbonate, CPVC, PVDF, FM4910, acetal, acrylics, PET, PEEK, UHMW, HDPE, PTFE, and PFA., • Use specialized welding equipment to perform Pure Bond, socket fusion, and butt weld operations safely and accurately., • Glue a variety of plastics, such as PVC, acrylic, and polycarbonate, following proper preparation and curing procedures., • Bend materials using heat to achieve required shapes and dimensions while maintaining material integrity., • Read and interpret engineered drawings, bills of materials, and work orders to plan and execute fabrication tasks., • Make threads on pipe and round rod to meet design and assembly requirements., • Operate manual mill and manual lathe to machine plastic components as needed., • Use a variety of hand tools, including hand scrapers, Exacto knives, utility knives, hand chisels, calipers, tape measures, deburring tools, and countersinks, to complete fabrication and finishing work., • Use electric tools safely, including welding guns, hand drills (electric and battery), hand routers, jointers, drill presses, table saws, and jig saws/saber saws., • Use measuring tools such as calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, radius gauges, angle gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and go/no-go tools to verify dimensions and tolerances., • Record job tracking information accurately to support scheduling, traceability, and quality documentation., • Communicate issues related to work orders, drawings, part shortages, and machine errors clearly and promptly., • Work both in-house and on-site at customer facilities, performing the same fabrication and welding functions as in the shop., • Field customer questions related to work, collaborate with customers, and assist in the manufacture of prototype opportunities., • Demonstrate initiative by helping train others and acting as a leader within a tight-knit, competent team., • Participate effectively in cross-departmental teams and balance the needs of the organization with the needs of the customer., • Apply goal-directed thinking and problem-solving in situations without routine solutions, breaking down complex issues into needs.Essential Skills, • High school diploma or equivalent., • 6–8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with fabrication experience required., • Proven ability to identify and weld different plastics, including WPP, NPP, all PVC materials, FRPP, PE, polycarbonate, CPVC, PVDF, FM4910, acetal, acrylics, PET, PEEK, UHMW, HDPE, PTFE, and PFA materials., • Proficiency using welding equipment for Pure Bond, socket fusion, and butt weld processes., • Ability to glue a variety of plastics such as PVC, acrylic, and polycarbonate., • Ability to bend plastic materials using heat while maintaining dimensional accuracy., • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and bills of materials., • Ability to identify and build using both inch and metric dimensions., • Ability to operate manual mill and manual lathe for plastic fabrication., • Ability to make threads on pipe and round rod., • Demonstrated skill in using hand tools including hand scrapers, Exacto knives, utility knives, hand chisels, calipers, tape measures, deburring tools, and countersinks., • Demonstrated skill in using electric tools safely, including welding guns, hand drills (electric and battery), hand routers, jointers, drill presses, table saws, and jig saws/saber saws., • Proficient use of measuring tools such as calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, radius gauges, angle gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and go/no-go tools., • Ability to work in a clean room environment for entire shifts when required., • Ability to adapt and work safely in hazardous environments by following proper procedures., • Valid driver’s license to travel to customer sites as needed., • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work as part of a tight-knit group and in cross-functional teams., • Ability to work independently, accept responsibility and accountability, and meet deadlines under pressure., • Effective verbal communication skills to field customer questions and communicate issues related to work orders, drawings, part shortages, and machine errors.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in a plastic fabrication facility, preferably supporting the semiconductor industry., • Experience assisting in the manufacture of prototype parts and working directly with customers on technical requirements., • Demonstrated leadership qualities and willingness to help train others., • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply goal-directed thinking when no routine solutions exist., • Interest in personal learning and development, with a habit of seeking feedback and modifying behavior based on self-analysis., • Ability to anticipate changes in work demands and participate in training or assignments that address those changes., • Comfort working both in-house and on-site at customer facilities, performing the same fabrication and welding functions., • Ability to maintain professionalism and a positive Work Environment The position is based in a plastic manufacturing facility in a non-clean-room area, with some assignments requiring work in a clean room environment for full shifts. The facility operates within an ISO-certified framework, emphasizing structured processes, documentation, and consistent quality standards. The manufacturing area includes some noise and plastic chips, and safety glasses are recommended on the floor outside designated safety corridors, with hearing protection recommended near machinery. Team members stand at their workstations for extended periods and must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Work involves frequent use of hand tools, electric tools, and measuring instruments around active machinery, requiring strict adherence to safety practices and procedures. The role may also involve travel to customer sites to perform fabrication and welding tasks, where the same safety and quality standards apply. A professional appearance is expected in alignment with company appearance standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
