Job Description Job Title: Construction Laborer Job Description This construction laborer performs and documents quality control inspections on a wide range of precast concrete products within the operations department. Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, this role evaluates products for dimensional accuracy, required tolerances, and aesthetic appearance while interpreting piece tickets and production drawings (blueprints). The technician also manages daily shipping and receiving of finished products and raw materials and supports overall plant and yard safety. Responsibilities • Perform pre-pour inspections of all forms, reinforcement, steel, and inserts in a timely manner to maintain an optimized workflow and reduce delays and rework., • Evaluate precast concrete pieces for dimensional accuracy, required tolerances, and aesthetic appearance, using piece tickets and production drawings (blueprints) as reference., • Maintain accurate daily and project production records to support traceability and quality reporting., • Check and verify all dimensions of cast-in embeds to ensure they meet specifications., • Complete daily quality control documentation thoroughly and accurately for all inspections performed., • Inspect all finished precast products and document any issues, ensuring that products requiring patching or rework are tracked and followed up to completion., • Ensure all precast products are correctly marked and labeled according to company standards and project requirements., • Assist other quality control personnel in testing materials and finished products as required, including concrete and related components., • Support daily shipping and receiving activities for finished products and raw materials, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation., • Assume responsibility for maintaining plant and yard safety in accordance with the company safety manual and under the direction of the Safety Coordinator., • Collaborate with production and operations teams to identify opportunities to decrease delays and reduce causes for rework., • Use tape measures and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances during inspections. Essential Skills • High school diploma or GED., • At least 2 years of construction experience., • Willingness and ability to complete an ACI certification within the first 6 months of employment., • Experience with concrete and concrete-related work environments., • Ability to perform and document quality control inspections on precast concrete products., • Proficiency in reading and using a tape measure accurately., • Attention to detail and accuracy when documenting information and inspection results., • Strong coordination and organizational skills to manage multiple inspections and records., • Ability to perform shipping and receiving tasks for finished products and raw materials., • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs (rarely) as needed., • Ability to stand and be on your feet for the majority of the workday. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Blueprint reading experience, including interpreting production drawings and piece tickets, is a plus., • Prior experience in quality control, quality control documentation, or as a Quality Control Technician is beneficial., • Familiarity with concrete inspections and troubleshooting quality issues., • Comfort working with precast concrete products and related materials., • Ability to collaborate effectively with quality control, production, and operations teams., • Basic understanding of safety practices in a plant and yard environment. Work Environment This role is based in a precast concrete manufacturing facility that produces quality concrete products for a variety of industries. You will work primarily in a plant and yard environment, performing inspections on forms, reinforcement, inserts, and finished precast products, as well as supporting shipping and receiving activities. The position typically involves working approximately 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed. The work is physically active, requiring you to be on your feet most of the day and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Safety is a core priority, and all activities follow the company safety manual under the guidance of the Safety Coordinator. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
