Job Purpose/Summary We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to design, prototype, and ruggedize RF front-end systems and hybrid cyber-physical systems for advanced communication and signal processing applications. This role involves designing and testing RF circuits, integrating antenna systems, and building prototypes that meet performance and durability requirements for field deployment. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in RF circuit design, system prototyping, and ruggedization to support scientific and data collection efforts. This position is perfect for someone passionate about designing robust hardware solutions for cutting-edge RF and communication technologies. Duties and Responsibilities • Design and optimize RF front-end circuits, including filtering, demodulation, amplification, and impedance matching., • Evaluate and select components for RF system performance and efficiency., • Collaborate on the design and integration of RF antenna systems, ensuring compatibility with the broader hardware system., • Conduct basic antenna measurements and optimize performance for various environments., • Build and test prototypes of hybrid cyber-physical systems, with a focus on RF and communication capabilities., • Develop small-scale prototypes for scientific data collection and communication, emphasizing performance, scalability, and durability., • Design and implement ruggedization techniques for scientific and data collection equipment, enabling reliable operation in challenging environments., • Conduct testing to validate the durability and reliability of prototypes under real-world conditions., • Use tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers to validate designs and ensure optimal performance., • Perform system-level testing to integrate and verify functionality across components., • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including embedded engineers and DSP specialists, to integrate hardware and software systems., • Document designs, test procedures, and results for knowledge sharing and compliance with project requirements. Qualifications Minimum: • Formal education in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, or a suitable mix of education and work experience., • Proven experience with RF circuit design, including filtering, demodulation, and amplification., • Basic understanding of RF antenna systems, including design and integration., • Hands-on experience prototyping hybrid cyber-physical systems., • Familiarity with small-scale prototyping and iterative design processes., • Proficiency in using RF design and simulation tools (e.g., ADS, HFSS, or CST)., • Experience with tools for circuit prototyping (e.g., PCB design software like Eagle, Altium or KiCad). Preferred: • Experience with designing or leveraging SoC/SoM systems for edge data processing and communications systems, • Experience with HDL/FPGA-enabled systems., • Knowledge of ruggedization techniques for field-deployable systems., • Experience with environmental testing (e.g., vibration, temperature, humidity)., • Familiarity with data collection equipment and its operational requirements., • Ability to troubleshoot and debug RF and mixed-signal circuits., • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
