Job DescriptionSalary: $23-$29 Hour Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Ophthalmic Technician to join our ophthalmology practice in Broward County, Florida. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring exceptional patient care and smooth clinical operations. This position involves conducting patient work-ups, performing diagnostic tests, assisting in minor procedures, acting as a scribe/medical assistant to the provider and maintaining ophthalmic equipment. A professional, friendly demeanor and empathetic approach to patient care are essential to represent our practice effectively. Key Responsibilities • Patient Work-Ups:, • Perform detailed patient history intake, including chief complaints, medical history, and medication review., • Conduct preliminary ophthalmic assessments (e.g., visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and refraction tests)., • Ophthalmic Diagnostic Testing:, • Perform and document diagnostic tests, including OCT, visual fields, corneal topography, and fundus photography., • Exam Room Maintenance:, • Open and close exam rooms daily, ensuring cleanliness and readiness., • Organize and restock supplies as needed., • Equipment Care:, • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment., • Schedule and oversee equipment servicing as required., • Clinical Support:, • Assist the physician with minor in-office procedures, including sterile setup and patient preparation., • Respond to clinical messages from patients and provide appropriate follow-up., • Facilitate prescription refill requests and handle prior authorizations for patient medications., • Patient Records:, • Accurately document patient information, diagnostic results, and physician notes in the electronic medical record (EMR) system., • General Responsibilities:, • Provide empathetic, professional, and friendly care to all patients., • Educate patients about procedures, treatments, and medication use as directed by the physician., • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and practice protocols. Qualifications • Education:, • High school diploma or equivalent required., • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred but not required., • Experience:, • Prior experience in ophthalmology or a related field is highly valued but not mandatory., • Experience with EMR systems is a plus., • Skills:, • Proficiency in performing ophthalmic diagnostic tests., • Excellent refraction skills highly valued., • Fluency in Spanish is highly valued., • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills., • Professional, friendly, and empathetic demeanor., • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment., • Strong multitasking skills and ability to adapt in a fast-paced setting.
