Job Description Job Summary The Paraprofessional is responsible for providing direct care, support, and supervision to adult males with developmental and intellectual disabilities in a community or group home setting. This role involves assisting residents with daily living activities, promoting independence, ensuring safety, and implementing individualized service plans in accordance with state regulations and agency policies. The paraprofessional works closely with other team members to create a supportive, respectful, and engaging living environment that encourages personal growth and community involvement. This includes helping with hygiene, meals, medication administration, behavioral support, and transportation to appointments or community outings. The ideal candidate is patient, compassionate, dependable, and committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with diverse needs. Responsibilities • Direct Care & Daily Living Support, • Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding., • Support residents in maintaining personal hygiene and a clean-living environment., • Encourage and promote independence in daily tasks based on each individual’s ability. 2. Medication Administration • Safely administer prescribed medications according to individual plans and document accurately., • Monitor for side effects or changes in behavior related to medications., • Follow all protocols and training related to medical emergencies. 3. Behavioral Support • Implement and follow behavior support plans designed by clinical professionals., • Use de-escalation techniques and provide emotional support during moments of distress., • Accurately document incidents, behavior changes, and interventions. 4. Communication & Relationship Building • Foster positive, respectful relationships with residents, families, and team members., • Use clear, respectful, and individualized communication techniques., • Advocate for resident rights and ensure dignity and choice are maintained at all times. 5. Documentation & Compliance • Maintain thorough and timely documentation including daily logs, incident reports, goal tracking, and health records., • Comply with state regulations, agency policies, and individual service plans (ISPs)., • Participate in audits, meetings, and evaluations as required. 6. Skill Development & Community Integration • Support residents in developing social, vocational, and life skills., • Encourage participation in recreational and community-based activities., • Provide transportation and accompany individuals to medical appointments, outings, or work programs as needed. 7. Housekeeping & Safety • Assist with cooking, cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe, organized home environment., • Conduct regular safety checks and report maintenance concerns., • Follow emergency procedures including fire drills and first aid protocols. 8. Team Collaboration • Work effectively with supervisors, peers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure consistent care., • Attend training sessions and staff meetings to stay current with best practices and care strategies., • Compassion and Empathy, • Ability to genuinely care for and connect with individuals with diverse needs. 2. Communication Skills • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication tailored to the comprehension level of each individual., • Active listening skills to understand resident needs and concerns., • Ability to document clearly and professionally in logs, reports, and medical charts. 3. Patience and Emotional Resilience • Remain calm and composed in stressful or challenging situations., • Use supportive, non-confrontational approaches during behavioral episodes. 4. Observation and Attention to Detail • Notice changes in behavior, mood, health, or environment that may require action., • Carefully follow individualized plans, medication schedules, and protocols. 5. Behavioral Management • Skilled in implementing behavior support plans and using de-escalation techniques., • Able to manage crisis situations safely and respectfully. 6. Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking • Quickly assess situations and respond appropriately., • Use sound judgment when unexpected issues arise (e.g., medical, behavioral, or environmental). 7.
