About the Role We are looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer who brings strong mechanical engineering instincts, a deep comfort with CAD, and a passion for whole-system vehicle architecture. If you are excited about bridging the gap between design and production – taking rugged frames from the ground up, optimizing precision machined parts, and spearheading complex mechanical integrations for robotic vehicles– this is your sandbox. Our production workflows and mechanical architecture will be heavily influenced by your expertise and vision. You will act as the vital link between CAD and the shop floor, ensuring our manufacturing processes are as resilient as the systems we build. Because we operate at a fast-growing startup pace, this role naturally extends beyond traditional manufacturing engineering boundaries. No role here exists in a silo; while you will help design and build out our manufacturing processes, identify production bottlenecks, and work lockstep with the production team to troubleshoot floor issues, you will also actively support mechanical design iterations, lead design for manufacturability (DFM) efforts, and drive component selection. What You’ll Do Manufacturing Engineering & Process Ownership • Bridge Design & Production: Act as the primary conduit between the engineering team’s technical data packages and the floor technicians, ensuring all systems are manufactured, analyzed, and delivered exactly as designed., • Systems & Data Management: Own, maintain, and structure Manufacturing BOMs (MBOMs), and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) data across internal systems., • MES Administration: Administer and optimize our Manufacturing Execution System (MES), ensuring real-time alignment between live inventory levels, production tracking, and active engineering revisions., • Documentation & Quality Control: Author, implement, and execute comprehensive manufacturing documentation—including detailed work instructions, quality plans, inspection parameters, and non-conformance reports (NCRs)—working side-by-side with technicians to complete them. CAD Design & DFM • Mechanical & Fixture Design: Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) to generate detailed models and engineering drawings for complex, tight-tolerance machined parts, as well as specialized tooling, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to streamline production., • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Partner closely with the product design team early in the lifecycle to optimize frames and components for efficient manufacturing, seamless assembly, and flawless vehicle integration. Testing, Procurement & Floor Collaboration • Whole-System Testing: Develop and execute rigorous physical test plans – stressing frames and pushing mechanical components to their limits in both the lab and the field to optimize platform reliability., • Supply Chain & Fabrication Management: Oversee external fabrication, coordinate directly with manufacturing vendors, and manage tactical procurement processes to keep production timelines on track., • Cross-Functional Execution: Work lockstep with electrical, software, and production teams to troubleshoot assembly bottlenecks and bring next-generation autonomous mobility platforms to life. YOUR ROLE In this role, you will: • Work as part of a small development team in a lean engineering environment on incremental releases of design software with a planned public launch in Q4 2022.
