Job Description Fitness Specialist Part-Time Non-Exempt Wellness Community Wellness Director 4/30/2026 General Purpose: Position is Part-time Hours are flexible as long as they are between 9:30AM and 2:30PM Monday through Friday. Position will be working 20 to 25 hours per week. Judson Park/Judson Manor Part Time Fitness Specialist is responsible for classes and other Wellness-related activities at Judson Manor. Serves as the key liaison for Wellness activities. Provides direct service physical activity programs promoting functional independence and quality of life for individuals of different levels of fitness. The individuals may be residents, Judson-at-Home members, associates, or community members. The programming will include individual and group services providing a variety of modalities such as group exercise classes, individual one-on-one programs, Wellness Center monitoring, group, and special maintenance services based on a referral from any of the skilled services (rehab services). Maintains a safe, warm and welcoming environment for residents, Judson-at-Home members, community members, and guests. Responsible for all Fitness Specialist duties and additional responsibilities as listed below: • This position requires days. Scheduled work time is allocated in the following manner:, • Attend new employee orientation and departmental orientation prior to or within one month of employment to gain an understanding of the organization: The Mission, Goals, Health and Wellness Philosophy., • Support the components of the Health and Wellness philosophy by taking an active role in programs and activities that contribute to the physical, social, emotional, spiritual, vocational and intellectual development of residents and community participants. This could include assisting other Resident Life/Wellness staff with tasks and activities that lead to resident participation and assisting residents with self-initiated programs., • Implement/initiate/teach a variety of physical activity programs that offer residents, from all levels of care, and community members, the opportunity to participate in daily physical activity that meets the minimum daily requirement of 30-minutes a day. All programs will be designed to address functional independence. The programs may include, depending upon the individual’s expertise, land and water classes (Arthritis H2O, Free Weights, Weight Machines, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi, Balance Ball)., • Certification and/or experience in teaching Aquatic Exercise, a plus., • Maintain individual attendance and program forms, progress documentation, records and reports on a daily, monthly or quarterly basis as required by the Department., • Assist Director of Wellness with some office duties, such as editing wellness brochure and schedules, communicating with Activities staff on changes in Wellness schedules, ordering supplies for the department at the request of the Wellness Director. Communicate with Director of Wellness regarding any maintenance/equipment needs, and any other occurrences that warrant Director’s attention., • Create monthly Wellness Blog titled Fun, Food & Fitness for Associates and Residents. Maintain Wellness Bulletin boards. Create and post flyers for Wellness programs., • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in the Strength Training Rooms., • Plan and implement ways to promote additional participation in the Strength Training Room. Encourage social interaction among users, reward their accomplishments, motivate and follow up with individuals whose attendance is erratic., • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Health Maintenance, Skilled Therapies, Resident Care Managers at the Manor/Park in the Bruening Health Care Center, Coordinators of the Assisted Living Areas at the Manor(Terrace II); at the Park (Gardenview/ Hillside/Reinberger); at SFC (Crane House)in order to promote new referrals to group or individual program offerings., • Plan and participate in the mutual setting of goals and objectives that will advance physical wellness for residents, staff and community participants., • Actively participate in staff meetings, in-services and workshops to maintain/increase skills as required by the organization/department. Part time 16 to 20 hours will be divided between Judson Manor and Judson Park Monday-Friday. This position requires possible evening and weekend work. Behavioral Skills: This position requires incumbents to exhibit personalized customer service with the following behavioral skills: • Respectfulness: Treating everyone with courtesy and respect; Presenting a positive first impression; Remembering our workplace is the resident’s home; Using an individuals preferred name; Offering assistance beyond area of immediate responsibility., • Trustworthiness: Delivering on commitments; Doing what you say you will do; protecting all confidential resident information., • Communication: Timely, accurate and appropriate communication to residents, families and associates., • High Standards: Keeping Judson clean, safe, secure, and accident free; Placing residents needs before our own; Dressing appropriately and professionally., • Teamwork: Listening to associates openly in a non-judgmental way; Being a team player in meeting Resident and organizational needs., • Leadership: Initiating solutions to problems Minimum Qualifications, Education and Certifications: Required Qualifications: • A Bachelors in exercise science or a related health services area is desirable but not required; a High school diploma with 3-5 years working with a senior population and holding a fitness certification from a recognized organization such an American College of Sports Medicine(ACSM), American Council on Exercise(ACE), Senior Fitness Association, Adult Fitness Association, etc.; CPR and First Aid. This position requires a current driver’s license and an insured vehicle for staffing programs that occur in Satellite locations., • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and time management skills with a strong background in successfully delivering exceptional customer service and strong attention to detail., • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, time management skills to ensure completion of duties and be a forward looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions., • Ability to routinely travel locally and periodically work a non-traditional schedule outside regular business hours if needed Preferred Qualifications: • Certified Yoga Instructor, Current Personal Training certification, certification or experience in Aquatic Exercise Instruction. Physical Requirements: Adequate hearing for communication requirements including phone work. Communication skills including articulation and enunciation to be heard and understood. Physical demands may include standing or sitting for extended periods, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs., climbing stairs, bending, stooping and repetitive motion. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing, to perceive and understand verbal and written communications, use personal computers, telephones and other standard office equipment are required. Working Conditions: Fitness Center, residential floors or rooms, pool and pool office.
