This broad primary role may have a focus on one or more of the following areas: loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management (LCAM). Maintains, troubleshoots and repair boiler, chilled water, and other system electrical equipment as necessary including power panels, breakers, relays, building wiring, motor control systems, alarms, lighting, phones, UPS’s, batteries, battery chargers, ATS’s, VFD’s, EDG operation, etc. Systems include low/medium/high voltage systems and electrical distribution network supplying electricity to member facilities and the plant. Troubleshooting, testing, and repairs of electrical systems, equipment, and components in a safe and reliable manner. Working with leadership to cultivate a family oriented inclusive culture. The MCCo uses natural gas in six (6) packaged boiler units to produce more than 500,000lbs/hr of steam capacity, boasts fourteen (14) chiller units to produce more than 30,000 tons of cooling capacity, and owns miles of electrical distribution infrastructure to provide reliable service to our clients. Additionally, the MCCo owns and operates a solar farm which produces 1MW of electrical power and several rooftop solar installations throughout University Circle. POSITION Reporting to the Maintenance Director, the Electrician will be an integral member of the MCCo Team consisting of (8) Management personnel and (28) Bargaining Unit staff members. Important peer relationships include the MCCo Operations, Maintenance, Electrical/I&C and Distribution personnel, along with client facility peers. Additionally, the Electrician will be charged with maintaining important external relationships, including a positive working rapport with clients, as well as, various vendors and contractors. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provides subject matter expertise to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities and facilities electrical systems. 2. Conducts regular audits and inspections of assets to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities and electrical systems. 3. Controls electricity through power centers, switchgear, motor control centers, conduit and wire chases, to internal power plant loads and customer loads. Maintains continuous provision of power to the dependent facilities. 4. Regulates voltage operating level and keeps records of equipment load and malfunction or other incidents. Reports to management any existing for potential safety hazard in power system or surrounding environs and where possible corrects the same or institutes a Work Order to track and repair the same. 5. Transfers load between transmission lines as needed using appropriate switches, indications, and circuit breakers. 6. Employs the use of high voltage safety equipment and follows standard procedures to guarantee safe operation of electrical equipment. 7. Has an active knowledge of NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B, uses high voltage safety equipment and follows standard procedures to guarantee the safe operation of electrical equipment. 8. Follows national safety standards and codes in the installation and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment including the National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Electric Motor Association, International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Society, the National Boiler Code and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers as appropriate dependent on the situation and requirements. 9. Troubleshoots, tests, maintains, and repairs all plant electrical systems. Collaborates with Maintenance Director to work with suppliers to order replacement parts as needed. 10. Reads prints, schematics, and installs equipment according to design documents and specifications. Installs conduit and conductors for building wiring, motor controls, alarms, telephones, relaying, panels, switches, receptacles, metering, fixtures, and electronic equipment. 11. Installs and maintains conduits, wires, communications for computer systems including controls for the boiler, condensate, feedwater, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum, domestic hot water, emergency, chemical treatment, central control, internet and annunciating systems and cabling, etc. 12. Assist I&C Technicians with maintaining and repairing boiler, chilled water, water, steam, air, tank level, pressure transducers, flow and pressure meters, valve actuation devices, etc. 13. Operates and maintains the emergency power system (batteries, diesels, and associated and transfers load for the system as required, 14. Performs Predictive and preventative maintenance to the standards listed above; and, reports through Work Orders issues resolved or requiring resolution. 15. Assists in maintaining electrical department inventory, tools (calibrated and on-calibrated) 16. Maintain awareness of modifications to regulatory needs related to conduct of maintenance and construction of electrical systems and components. 17. Experience in supporting the development of and following a Reliability Centered Maintenance Plan for a critical environment such as a district energy system. 18. Ensures Computerized Maintenance Management System has all electrical as included as assets with appropriate job plans. 19. Assist planning and operations staff to identify skills and resource needed to complete planning and reactive work activities. 20. Requires project management experience to manage multiple on-going projects within multiple work streams. 21. Involved in evaluation of instrument performance to identify optimization and enhancement opportunities. 22. Supports the monitoring and reporting of EDG emissions. 23. Assist in filing appropriate compliance reports with regulatory agencies and ensure permits are tracked and monitored. 24. Working knowledge of metered systems. 25. Shall work closely with I&C technicians, stationary engineers, maintenance, and distribution employees. 26. Be able conduct switch lineups, Lock-out Tagouts, JSA’s/Pre-Job Briefs, and have knowledge of hazardous work permits. 27. Must be aware of all plant work/evolutions in progress. 28. Shall work with limited supervision from the Operations/Maintenance Directors. 29. Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines/standards for the facility. 30. Familiarity with industry compliance, best practices and training standards. 31. Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to: 1. React and take action quickly in all compliance and operational matters. 2. Analyze difficult and complex issues and strategies, reach sound, logical fact-based conclusions and provide recommendations; 3. Understand, interpret, explain and apply local, state and federal policy, law, and regulation standards as they relate to MCCo Electrical/I&C department; 4. Understand internal reporting systems to ensure regulatory compliance and plant efficiency. 5. May participate in the strategic planning, organization design, implementation and monitoring of comprehensive programs; 6. Evaluate departmental practices and make sound recommendations for improvement and develop and assist in implementing appropriate procedures and controls; 7. Exercise sound, expert independent judgment and political acumen within general policy guidelines; 8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of MCCo employees, clients, business and community partners; 9. Proven, exceptional ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams from a servant co-worker perspective. 10. Comfortably work under tight deadlines, multi-tasking and prioritizing sensitive safety and regulatory compliance concerns. Qualification Requirements: 1. High school diploma (or equivalent); trade school/military training in the electrical power plant trades. 2. 5+ years with industry related experience with a focus in industrial electric. 3. Medium voltage required and High voltage experience preferred. 4. Valid driver’s license “Plus” Skills/Certifications/Qualifications/Experience: 1. OSHA 1910 10-hour/30-hour course completion. 2. Advanced training in switchgears, relays, ACBs, ATS’s, and transformers. 3. Advanced training in motors and controllers/starters. 4. Experience with diesel generation operation and maintenance. 5. Experience working with station battery/UPS operation and maintenance. 6. Experience working in power plants. 7. Experience working with steam plant, chilled water, compressed air, electrical distribution, control systems and associated auxiliary support systems and equipment. 8. Experience with overseeing internal reporting systems to ensure regulatory compliance. 9. Experience with mechanical, electrical, and controls systems maintenance. 10. Experience and knowledge of Global Harmonization System, Hazardous Material and Hazardous Waste Handling. 11. Experience with Emissions Monitoring Systems and control. 12. Experience using Maximo Maintenance Management System. 13. Experience using E-Logger electronic logging system. 14. Experience using RedTag Lockout Tagout system. 15. Experience using KPA Safety Management software system. 16. Experience using GPi Learn Computer Based Training system. Critical Skills Requirements: 1.
