Our Fort Worth operation includes steel distribution and fabrication with cutting, forming, welding, burning, slitting and material‑handling activities across multiple shifts. Role Summary The Safety Manager owns plant‑wide safety strategy, compliance, and engagement. This hands‑on leader partners with Operations, Fabrication, Distribution and Maintenance to prevent injuries, mitigate risk, and drive a proactive safety culture. The role maintains OSHA compliance, leads incident response and root‑cause analysis, and develops training, audits and metrics that continuously improve performance. Key Responsibilities • Lead site safety program and culture building; facilitate safety committee and frontline engagement., • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926; Texas requirements) and customer standards., • Own written programs, SOPs and permits: LOTO, hot work, hazard communication (SDS), PPE, machine guarding, forklift/PIT, crane & rigging, confined space, respiratory protection, hearing conservation and ergonomics., • Conduct routine audits/inspections of shop, yard, and distribution areas; track findings to closure., • Plan and deliver training (new‑hire, annual refreshers, job‑specific); maintain training matrices and records., • Lead incident/near‑miss investigations using root‑cause methods; implement and verify corrective/preventive actions., • Manage OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A/301), workers’ compensation claims, and return‑to‑work/modified duty., • Coordinate industrial hygiene needs (noise surveys, exposure assessments, air monitoring) and medical surveillance as required., • Oversee contractor and visitor safety, including orientation and permit control., • Develop leading/lagging metrics and dashboards; report results and priorities to plant leadership weekly/monthly., • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering on risk assessments, machine safeguarding and change management (MOC)., • Own emergency preparedness: drills, first aid/CPR/AED coordination, spill response, and severe‑weather plans., • Support DOT/FMCSA compliance for company drivers as applicable (vehicle inspections, driver files, hours of service). Qualifications • 5+ years of EHS/Safety experience in manufacturing, metals, or heavy industrial environments; steel/fabrication preferred., • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 (and 1926 as applicable), incident investigation and risk‑reduction methods., • Demonstrated success leading safety culture change and engaging hourly teams., • Strong communication, training, and influence skills; comfortable on the floor and in leadership reviews., • Proficiency with MS Office/Excel for metrics, dashboards and documentation; ability to manage records and audits., • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience. Preferred (Nice to Have) • Professional certification (e.g., ASP, CSP, OHST, CHST) or OSHA 30/Trainer credentials., • Experience with cranes/rigging standards, welding/fabrication hazards, and powered industrial trucks., • Workers’ compensation claims management and return‑to‑work program administration., • Experience with DOT/FMCSA compliance in a distribution environment.
