Others find a career they never saw coming. What is a Deckhand? A Deckhand is a junior member of the vessel crew and a front-line representative of Harbor Boating, Inc. The role supports safe vessel operations, guest engagement, and onboard cleanliness while working under the Captain's supervision underway and the Team Leader's when shoreside. In plain words, a Deckhand helps keep the boat safe, the operation running smoothly, and the passenger experience positive. What youll do Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Help passengers board and disembark safely, • Assist with strollers, bicycles, baggage, and personal items, • Greet guests, answer questions, and validate tickets, • Support ticketing, onboard sales, and guest service, • Help clean and maintain the vessel throughout the day, • Conduct basic pre-operational safety and engine checks under the Captains guidance, • Serve as a lookout while the vessel is underway, • Assist with docking, departure procedures, line handling, and fender positioning, • Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities, • Demonstrate lifesaving equipment when needed, • Operate the helm under the direct supervision of the Captain when authorized What you need To be considered, you must: • Be 18 years of age or older, • Have a high school diploma or GED preferred, • Be able to obtain a TWIC, • Be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire, • Be able to pass DOT/USCG-mandated drug and alcohol screening, • Be physically able to lift 40 lbs, • Be comfortable working outdoors, on docks, and on moving vessels in varying weather, • Have strong communication and customer service skills, • Be available for flexible shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays What kind of person does well here?
