Position overview As a Senior Scientist DSP, you will be a key contributor to the development and optimization of Verley’s downstream processes for protein recovery and purification. Reporting to the Lead Bioprocess, you will work hands-on at laboratory scales, designing and executing experiments, analyzing results, and guiding process improvements. You will collaborate closely with the Food Science and Industrialization teams to ensure that processes are not only efficient and scalable, but also aligned with product functionality and application needs. You will join and help mentor a small team of 2 DSP technicians, bringing expertise, scientific rigor, and innovation to Verley’s DSP activities. Key responsibilities Laboratory Development & Optimization • Design, execute, and analyze DSP experiments at laboratory scales (e.g., centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, precipitation, drying)., • Optimize process parameters to maximize yield, purity, and robustness., • Develop and implement methods for process characterization and scale-up readiness., • Collaborate with the Industrialization team to translate lab-scale processes (2 L/30 L) into pilot and industrial scale., • Prepare technical documentation (SOPs, process descriptions, reports) to support pilot and industrial implementation., • Interact with Food Science to ensure DSP outputs meet functional and application requirements., • Collaborate with USP and Analytics to align DSP development with upstream processes and product specifications., • Contribute to project teams with DSP expertise, aligning development work with industrial and commercial needs., • Maintain accurate lab records, reports, and data analysis., • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards for food-grade protein production. Desired profile • PhD or Master’s degree in Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related field., • 5 years of experience in downstream process development, ideally with proteins in biotechnology or food ingredients., • Strong expertise in protein purification and DSP technologies (filtration, chromatography, drying, etc.)., • Hands-on experience working at lab and pilot scales with proven ability to translate findings to industrialization., • Experience supervising technicians or junior scientists., • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment., • Fluent English (spoken and written); French is a plus.
