Controls Technician / Controls Engineer Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum Full-time | Permanent Birmingham A well-established and growing manufacturing and engineering group is seeking an experienced Controls Technician / Controls Engineer to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic, hands-on environment where you will contribute to the design, build and support of bespoke control systems. The Role You will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of control system projects — from initial client discussions through to design, testing and site support. Key responsibilities include: • Liaising with clients to define system specifications and project requirements, • Assisting with the preparation of quotations, • Designing electrical schematics in line with relevant electrical and safety standards, • Designing control panel and cabinet layouts, • Producing Bills of Materials (BOMs), • Developing PLC and HMI software (SCADA experience advantageous but not essential), • Configuring instrumentation, VFDs and associated control equipment, • Testing equipment for electrical safety and operational compliance prior to dispatch, • Preparing technical documentation and manuals, • Supporting control panel builds in the workshop when required, • Providing technical support to internal teams and associated companies, • Delivering remote/telephone technical support, • Attending site visits when required for commissioning and system support, • Diagnosing and fault-finding control system issues on machinery, • Supporting general workshop and light administrative duties within a small business environment About You The successful candidate will: • Be motivated to develop and expand their technical skillset, • Demonstrate a strong commitment to working safely, • Treat colleagues and clients with professionalism and respect, • Take pride in delivering high-quality work and customer service, • Competitive salary of £40,000 – £45,000 depending on experience, • Performance-based recognition, • Ongoing training and career development opportunities, • A supportive and collaborative working environment, • Clear progression opportunities within a growing organisation, • Fair and inclusive employment practices This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, solution-focused Controls Engineer who enjoys variety, responsibility and working closely with both customers and production teams.
