    We are looking for a Waking night and day shift support worker / carer to join the lovely team around our 19 year old son who has epilepsy and profound autism, is non verbal and has additional health needs. He lives at home with his family and dog. We will need someone to take on both daytime hours as well as cover 1-2 waking nights per week. We need to cover the following waking nights: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the moment. These night supports are strictly waking nights. You would often work together with other team members to engage him in every day activities and to take him out into the community. But you would also need to take on sole charge after training. He can walk short distances but otherwise uses a wheel chair. He likes to go to the park, shopping, cafe and sometimes some planned activities all with a lot of support. His communication is mainly through pictures of reference and is taught with ABA principles. His ABA consultant is training the You would be expected to attend those team meetings. He sometimes is also tired and unwell after a seizure or other illness and will then just need care and nurturing and patience. He also sometimes has hospital stays which requires patience. You would be assisting him with everyday skills and activities as well as feeding, bathing and toileting. Ideally you have experience with catheterisation and peresteen as well as PEG feeding too. But we can also train you. On normal days he needs support workers to be patient, fun and also strong as he is a lanky teenager who does need a lot of physical support. You would need to be able to appreciate a person who has profound autism and treat him with dignity. When working a waking overnight you will need to make sure that he is safe and alert parents in case of a seizure. This position also involves keeping his environment generally tidy and clean and help with his laundry. Please only people who are dog friendly apply. Please only non smokers and non vapers apply. You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable, physically strong and healthy as he needs a lot of support. You will be trained by members of the team and the education consultant and be taught the principles of ABA - a behaviour therapy. You would be someone who has interest in special needs, psychology and perhaps nursing. You would perhaps have studied a related field or are planning to study a related field. You would need to be flexible and sometime cover for other people in the team if they are away on holidays or ill. Ideally you would work with a UTR number on a self-employed basis or if needed because of a visa through an agency with a PAYE (we can help with this). You should: • Apply with cover letter, CV, DBS and relevant references, • Commit for minimum a year., • Invoice at the end of every month, • Able to work legally in the UK, • Be based in London We are based in Islington. Weekly hours: minimum 26 hours (often more) or if full-time minimum 37.5 hours. please indicate in your application if you are after full or part time (can work with UTR or only PAYE) interested in both day and night shifts or only night shifts (we can not hire anyone who is not interested in the night shift).
