Caudwell Marine (CM) is a start-up business backed by philanthropist John Caudwell and is developing an innovative, patented outboard motor. The CM organisation is a growing, experienced team of people who are passionate about successfully bringing this technologically leading outboard motor to market. Each team member has a ‘hands on’ approach and supports each other for the benefit of the programme. We are seeking a Health & Safety Advisor based in Coventry, with regular travel required to our Lowestoft facility (2-3 days per month). This key role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety across both sites, ensuring a safe working environment for employees and visitors, as well as managing facilities operations to maintain optimal working conditions. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, championing and maintaining safety policies/procedures. Managing the maintenance and facilities needs of Caudwell Marines sites as required. Key Responsibilities: Health and Safety: • Develop and enforce health and safety policies and procedures tailored to the manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with UK regulations such as HS- E guidelines, COSHH, and other relevant standards., • Conduct safety audits, and inspections at both Coventry and Lowestoft sites to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken., • Develop and put in place a comprehensive process for risk assessment, conducting high level risk assessments as needed for the business, but engaging with department heads and championing a process of risk assessment ownership and departments conducting their own low level risk assessments., • Conduct COSHH Risk Assessments on all hazardous substances, advising department heads on the relevant control measures to implement based on findings. Updating the company’s approved substances list and ensuring process in regard to substances on Caudwell’s sites are followed., • Provide advice and guidance in relation to the creation of RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements) to support the customer relations team in the installation/servicing/commissioning/removal of outboards at our customer sites., • Lead safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, conducting safety inductions, ensuring they are well-informed about health and safety procedures and emergency protocols., • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and providing feedback to department heads regarding actions to mitigate future risks. Assisting department heads to conduct low level investigations as appropriate., • Monitor health and safety compliance across all operations, providing support and guidance to site management teams., • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of safety equipment, fire safety systems, and first aid resources., • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, audits, and training, ensuring all documents are available for internal and external audits. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Facilities Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)., • Professional certifications in health and safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH), • Professional certification in health and safety fire safety Key Competencies & Personnel Skills: • Knowledge or experience working to ISO 14001/45001 standards, • Previous experience in health and safety management within a manufacturing environment., • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and associated risks, and a strong understanding of relevant regulations and best practices., • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to travel regularly between Coventry and Lowestoft sites as needed., • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail., • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities., • Ability to work effectively with teams across different locations., • Proactive, solution-focused approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement., • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across different levels of the organisation., • Experience/Understanding off Offshore H&S requirements under the MCA in relation to Workboat Codes, Marine Guidance Notes is a bonus.
