Reed Engineering & Manufacturing are working with a leading Engineering & Manufacturing company. The Role We are currently recruiting a Shift Maintenance Supervisor Engineer to join our heavy manufacturing operation within the metals industry. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will supervise a small team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, safe working practices, and effective shift delivery. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of critical production machinery, including furnaces/heat treatment, overhead cranes etc, and associated electrical and mechanical systems. Key Responsibilities • Lead, coach, and supervise a team of 2–3+ maintenance engineers/technicians on shift, • Allocate and prioritise reactive and planned maintenance tasks to minimise downtime, • Carry out hands-on electrical and/or mechanical fault finding on heavy industrial plant, • Maintain equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, sensors, PLC-controlled systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic machinery, • Ensure detailed shift handovers and accurate maintenance reporting using CMMS systems, • Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard, • Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, including risk assessments and permits to work You will be a time-served maintenance engineer with strong fault-finding ability and ideally proven supervisory experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment. Essential Requirements • NVQ Level 3, C&G, HNC, or HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, • Completed engineering apprenticeship, • 3–7+ years’ experience in heavy industry (steel, metal processing, glass manufacturing, aggregate manufacturing, ,or any other heavy engineering/ manufacturing, or similar), • Previous experience supervising a maintenance team or acting as a shift lead would be advantageous Electrical Bias • 3-phase systems, • PLC fault finding (Siemens / Allen Bradley), • VFDs and industrial control panels, • Hydraulics and pneumatics, • Gearboxes, bearings, and rotating equipment, • Competitive salar, • Company pension, bonus and benefits package, • Ongoing training and development, • Stable, long-term role within a well-established industrial operation
