As a post CCT fellow, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in in one of the busiest emergency departments in the UK. The Leicester Royal Infirmary has the only Emergency Department serving the city of Leicester and the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland and is one of the busiest in the country, treating over 230,000 new patients, a quarter of whom are children. The ED incorporates: • 12 Resuscitation bays, • 32 bay Majors area, • Injuries area with 10 cubicles, • Separate Paediatric ED with 12 rooms and 8 bays, • 16 bed Emergency Decisions unit, • Emergency Frailty Unit, • Working in the Emergency Department as a senior decision maker ( ST6 level) providing support to the medical team., • Ensure standards are met to ensure a safe department are met at all times, • Lead in areas to ensure clinical safety and efficient decision making, • Experience in running the department with support of nominated supervisor., • Provide visible leadership on the shopfloor, • Spend time completing Consultant of the day tasks, • Participate in patient safety investigations, complaints and requests for case reviews, • Support formal education programmes within the department, • Gain experience in department working groups alongside allocated Consultant, • Identify and lead a service improvement project that will benefit the department priority., • Attend Departmental meetings alongside Consultant, • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's Values and Behaviours, • CCT (or within 6 months of expected achievement including via CESR route) in Emergency Medicine Instructor in life support courses, • 3 years of higher Emergency Medicine training or equivalent To be able to work at an appropriate level but with recourse to senior advice when necessary. Documented competencies in Emergency Medicine, • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that is adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues. Clarity of communication and organisation. To be empathic and sensitive, • Personal integrity and reliability. Willingness to learn new skills Evidence of professional team working, • Evidence of adequate CME if appropriate Understanding of Audit principles Evidence of personal experience of audit Up to date - Good Clinical Practice, • Understanding of the NHS, its strategy and current issues pertinent to Emergency Medicine Able to follow UHL policies and guidance, • Able to demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs. The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment. The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check. Due to the current Covid pandemic we have introduced a staff risk assessment into our pre-employment process.
