Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 and Small Group Support) - Full-Time\n Location: Liverpool, Merseyside\n Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only\n\nJob Description\n\nWe are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Liverpool, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs across early years, primary, and secondary age groups. The school serves families from Liverpool and surrounding areas across Merseyside.\n\nThis role involves providing tailored 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils access learning, build independence, and achieve their individual potential within a supportive and inclusive school community.\n\nThe successful candidate will have prior experience working with children or young people with special educational needs and a genuine passion for inclusive education.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProvide SEN support:\n Deliver high-quality 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties, adapting approaches to suit different ages and abilities.\n\nSupport learning and development:\n Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum through differentiated activities, sensory approaches, and targeted interventions aligned with their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).\n\nPromote inclusion and engagement:\n Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that supports positive behaviour, confidence, and active participation in learning.\n\nWork collaboratively:\n Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to implement and review EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies.\n\nSocial, emotional, and behavioural support:\n Support pupils' emotional regulation, social skills, and communication, using appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.\n\nMonitor and record progress:\n Track and report on pupils' progress, behaviour, and development, contributing to reviews and planning meetings.\n\nPersonal care and physical support:\n Provide support with personal care, mobility, or medical needs where required, maintaining dignity, safety, and wellbeing at all times.\n\nRequirements\n\nPrevious experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school or specialist setting (essential)\nA Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable\nGood understanding of a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs\nA calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build strong relationships\nStrong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team\nWillingness to support pupils with personal care and behavioural needs\nEnhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)\n\nBenefits\n\nCompetitive salary, dependent on experience\nOngoing CPD and SEN-specific training opportunities\nA supportive and welcoming specialist school environment within the Liverpool community\nThe opportunity to make a real difference to the lives and outcomes of children and young people with SEN across Liverpool and the wider Merseyside areaAPPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR VERITAS EDUCATION\n\nAll applications are subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, professional reference checks, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) in line with our stringent safeguarding policy\nYour CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and all employment breaks must be explained\nYou must have legal right to work in the UK\nYou must be willing to attend a registration interviewVeritas Education work with a variety of schools covering a wide geographical area.
