Job Description The Monument Companies is seeking an Accounts Payable & Innovation Associate! Why This Role? This is not a typical entry-level accounting position. Yes, you'll gain valuable experience with Accounts Payable, bank reconciliations, and core accounting - but you'll also have the opportunity to help shape the future of how we use AI to transform our AP processes. We're looking for someone who is excited to roll up their sleeves and take ownership of hands-on accounting responsibilities such as AP processing and bank reconciliations. While these tasks are foundational, they are critical - by managing them directly, you will be well positioned to identify inefficiencies and measure the real impact of automation as our systems evolve. Over time, this role grows beyond processing work into a true career path toward Asset Management, where you will gain exposure to property reporting, development accounting, and investor relations. Along the way, you will partner with our Project Manager responsible for Strategic Operations & Innovation to implement technology solutions that reduce manual work and improve team efficiency. This position begins as hourly, non-exempt due to its transactional accounting focus, and is expected to transition to exempt status as responsibilities expand into Asset Management. THE ROLE: This entry-level position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on accounting experience while building a foundation for a career in Asset Management. The role begins with a primary focus on Accounts Payable responsibilities - including invoice processing, payments, and bank reconciliations - while also supporting the use of technology and AI to improve AP workflows. Over time, responsibilities expand into financial reporting, development accounting, and portfolio oversight. Accounts Payable & Bank Reconciliations (Initial Focus) • Take ownership of invoice processing, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and timely entry into Yardi or similar software, • Prepare and process weekly check runs, ACH payments, and electronic transfers, • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies, • Maintain accurate AP records and support annual 1099 reporting, • Assist with compliance by collecting and maintaining W-9s, lien waivers, and insurance certificates, • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for assigned accounts, • Partner with Strategic Operations & Innovation to implement AI-driven process improvements and measure efficiency gains General Accounting & Exposure to Asset Management • Assist with month-end close and account reconciliations, • Support expanded bank reconciliation responsibilities as experience grows, • Gain exposure to property-level financial reporting, • Assist with loan draws and construction billing, • Support quarterly and annual reporting packages, • Assist with budgeting and forecasting Future Asset Management Responsibilities • Support monthly portfolio reporting and lender/investor packages, • Assist with development accounting and construction reporting, • Track tax credit and investor compliance deadlines, • Participate in cash management activities, • Contribute to special projects, audits, and tax reporting Performance Essentials • Time Management: Ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently, • Adaptability: Comfortable managing competing demands and changing priorities, • Communication: Professional interaction with team members, leadership, vendors, and residents, • Foresight: Ability to anticipate challenges and plan ahead Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or relevant coursework/experience)., • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook skills., • Yardi or similar accounting software experience preferred but not required., • Interest in technology and openness to working with AI solutions., • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills., • Reliable transportation.
