The Associate Director, Pharmacy Operations will work alongside cross-functional leaders to strategically support team and services through growth opportunities and perform additional pharmacy operation and patient-related service responsibilities as assigned by leadership. The Associate Director ensures pharmacy operations and services provided are done so in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy parameters, as well as in cooperation with all other necessary teams and departments. This position, working under the oversight of Pharmacy Services senior leadership will be responsible for a specialty and infusion pharmacy operation that supports various patient and provider-facing services and therapeutic categories. This role will provide daily oversight to referral, reimbursement, clinical, and pharmacy team members onsite while working in collaboration with other pharmacy locations and Biomatrix Centers of Excellence (CoE) teams that support referral services for all therapies that may engage with the pharmacy location. This position has a strong understanding of all steps within the referral management, clinical coordination, prescription delivery, and refill management processes for multiples lines of specialty and infusion-based therapies overseeing key operational performance metrics at the site level. This individual will support team, people, and talent development within a given pharmacy location where services are provided and in collaboration with other pharmacy dispensing sites and cross-functional teams within the organization. This Associate Director may also serve as a point of contact for Sales team members to ensure team is prepared to support new referral source and volume growth while meeting the needs of our patient community. This individual will also be licensed in the state location and will be registered with the Board of Pharmacy for applicable states where the pharmacy serves patients, as needed. The Associate Director, Pharmacy Operations will assist with the daily operations of pharmacy staff and will primarily oversee those team members responsible for prescription processing, clinical assessment, drug utilization review, prescription verification, product labeling, and fulfillment in addition to operations and patient-related service responsibilities as assigned by leadership. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy; Master’s, PharmD or post-graduate clinical education preferred but not required2-4 years’ experience in specialty and/or infusion pharmacy operations leadership and oversight2-4 years’ experience in overseeing pharmacy operational workflow providing high-touch patient service and coordination of care activities such as reimbursement/benefit investigation, financial support, and clinical assessment with data collection efforts1-3 years’ experience in team and talent development, development of operational workforce resource plans, and management of plans to meet operational work metricsExperience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfactionExperience in working alongside field-based sales and patient support team members to deliver on services in a manner that upholds sales strategy and service commitmentsExperience in specialty and/or infusion product reimbursement and payer landscape including medical and PBM billing practices Experience in organizing team and resources to meet overall business and/or segment objectives and outcomes Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes; primarily to pharmacy operational locations and when necessary to attend meetings, conferences, seminars, etc. QUALIFICATIONS PREFERREDExperience and knowledge of accreditation requirements and process for specialty and/or infusion pharmaciesGeneral understanding of pharmacy and medical reimbursement concepts and applicability to prescription profitability General understanding of pharmacy inventory management and reconciliation processesGeneral understanding of wholesaler, supplier, and distributor relationships, contractual agreements, and necessary processes to product access in a pharmacy environmentExperience and knowledge of 340B program requirements, practices, and reporting needs for contracted healthcare institutions and participating entities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees pharmacy team members responsible for day-to-day operations of pharmacy location(s) with teams supporting various specialty and infusion therapy services including but not limited to: patient and provider facing communication services, prescription fulfillment, order shipping practices, clinical assessment and data collection, inventory and refill management.Sets operational site, team, and individual goals and objectives aligned to business strategy and financials with support from Pharmacy operational leadership.Creates environment for and supports team/people development, education, and advancement. Adopts culture focused on team communication, transparency, cross-functional collaboration, goal management, outcomes monitoring, celebrate our successes, and provides hands-on support to overcome obstacles or mitigate risks.Measures agreed upon key performance indicators and best practices for service offerings and teams aligned to service delivery from referral intake to shipment and patient follow-up.Provides oversight and supervision for pharmacy personnel to ensure safe and effective pharmacy operations.Works collaboratively with other operational functional department leaders to support end to end patient care effectively and efficiently.Assists Pharmacy leadership in Performance Improvement/Quality Management Committee, Clinical Oversight committee related requirements i.e. data gathering, report generation, corrective actions, etc. Maintains necessary and thoughtful communications to the pharmacy operations team delivering information supplied by leadership with impact to people, process, and technology updates within a given location.Directs, coordinates and evaluates pharmacy staff and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s polices and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; succession planning; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Has strong understanding of prescription volume, data, and ability to effectively navigate resources to meet volume expectations and needs. Supports effective communication of these needs to the team to achieve daily, weekly, monthly & quarterly goals.Serves as Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) and/or effectively oversees PIC for given location with required licensure in good-standing.Oversees and/or supports Pharmacist and clinical duties as needed for patient management including but not limited to clinical assessment, documentation, and counseling services, inventory management (ordering, receipt, invoice reviews/approvals, reconciliation, and audits), performing PV1, PV2, and participating in RPh on-call rotational support as needed or scheduled. Oversee all scheduling of department technicians and Pharmacists either directly or through a qualified individual with responsibility for policy implementation, patient satisfaction, and performance improvement.Sets the tone for the pharmacy operations, develops and supports BioMatrix culture in the work environment, and ensures there is opportunity for team professional development.Work with necessary team members to ensure deliveries have been made appropriately and timely.Assists in the evaluation and support for patient issues, which may arise due to the psychological, social and economic aspects of therapies.Supports and provides necessary data to meet state, contractual, and/or accreditation reporting requirements (i.e. payor contracts, URAC, ACHC, PMPs, etc.)Maintains Out-of-State non-resident pharmacy licenses (non-resident, DEA, Controlled Substance, Sterile compounding, etc.) as required or specified for a certain BioMatrix pharmacy operation Serves as a point of contact and collaborates with Sales leadership, Regional Care Coordination team, Pharma Relations, and Managed Markets Payer Sales resources as needed to deliver on committed service metrics. Works effectively with human resources to monitor staffing/workforce needs, recruitment efforts, team performance, and employee relations scenario management with support from Pharmacy Services operations leadership.Facilitates compliance with state and federal regulations, accrediting body standards, and corporate policies, and standards of performance.Complies with the regulatory guidelines of the State Board of Pharmacy, FDA, DEA, Department of Health & Human Services, Medicare, and OSHA.Serves as a member on the performance improvement team up to 10% of their time.Promotes team building and provides both positive feedback and constructive criticism to improve productivity and accountability.Reinforces ALL policies and procedures. Knowledge of pharmacy, drug, narcotic, and related laws and regulations of the state board of pharmacy and respective prescription monitoring programs, along with federal laws and accreditation standards Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, drugs, narcotics, and poisons. Knowledge of the calculation of doses and the preparation and use of percentage and stock solutions. Knowledge of the basic sciences underlying pharmacy, such as chemistry, biology, and physics. Knowledge of the processes involved in pharmaceutical preparations. Knowledge of stock control and related record keeping. Ability to apply safety and efficiency in the prescribing, dispensing, administering, and use of drugs and related articles for the prevention of illness and the maintenance and management of health. Ability to fill prescriptions and prepare official drugs and standard medications. Ability to recognize physical, chemical, and therapeutic incompatibilities.
