About the Person Are you an HR leader tired of being the policy police? A people ops professional frustrated by companies that say “people are our greatest asset” but don’t act like it? If you’ve built cultures, coached leaders, and still watched people strategy treated like a checkbox, keep reading. This is not a compliance role. Not an admin seat with a polished title. This is a strategic leadership role for someone who believes great organizations are built by investing in people every day. You think like a business partner, coach like a performance psychologist, and build like an operator. You know culture is not perks. It is how people feel on a random Tuesday when no one is watching. You’ve seen the difference real investment in people makes, and you want to be the reason this company gets it right. You lead from the front. On the floor, in the room, in the work. You build trust through presence and repetition. You don’t rely on surveys to understand the team. You already know because you’re there. You will work directly with leadership and shape how the company grows. You will build on a strong, intentional culture and take it further. You will coach top performers, develop emerging talent, and build systems so every person knows where they stand. If this is the work you want to own, this role is for you. About Mosaic Mosaic is a shared single-family office serving ~40 entrepreneurial families with significant illiquid holdings and complex needs that transcend what most private banks, multi-family offices, trust companies, and wealth managers are structurally built - or incentivized - to address. Our client families are typically first-generation founders. Builders who prefer boots and blue jeans to suits and ceremony, with net worths starting at $100MM and a chronic allergy to liquidity. They already have deep benches of specialists - CPAs, attorneys, investment managers, bankers. The talent is there. The coordination is not. That's where we come in. 100% of our revenue comes from flat quarterly retainers. We don't charge hourly, manage money for a fee, sell products, draft legal documents, or prepare tax returns. We are agnostic about a family's net worth, insurability, and investable assets. That independence lets us do what most firms can't: serve as a proactive, comprehensive, and objective strategic guide at the intersection of Financial Capital and Family Capital. About the Role The team is about 30 people - sharp, low-ego, and genuinely collaborative. We work hard, we laugh often, and we lead with humility. We're in the office every day because the trust we build with each other and with our client families isn't earned from behind a screen - it's earned through authentic connection, hard conversations, and showing up consistently. Our commitment to our team is that the work will be intellectually stimulating, financially rewarding, and emotionally nourishing. Your job is to make sure that's not just a promise - it's a measurable reality. You are the architect, the coach, and the conscience of Mosaic's people strategy. Day to day, that looks like: Talent Strategy & Leadership Development - Design Mosaic's long-term talent blueprint - the people, skills, and structure needed to scale without losing what makes this place special. Coach department leads with clarity, candor, and empathy. Build development paths and learning frameworks that make growth inevitable, not accidental. You're not filling seats. You're building a roster. Culture & Employee Experience - Serve as the steward of Mosaic's values and team norms - the person who sees around corners before drift sets in. Own the full employee lifecycle: recruiting, onboarding, development, and offboarding. Be a confidential sounding board for team members and a truth-teller for leadership. Monitor engagement and act early - because by the time someone's updating their LinkedIn, you've already lost. Workforce Planning & Org Design - Align org structure with business goals as Mosaic scales. Make sure every role has clear ownership, every team has the right people, and every leader has the data to make smart decisions about their bench - not gut feelings dressed up as strategy. Operational Rhythms & Systems - Own the annual cycles: performance reviews, merit and bonus cycles, engagement surveys, goal setting. Maintain career maps, role clarity documents, and accountability frameworks. Lead recurring 1:1s, monthly department reviews, and quarterly goal check-ins with department leads. Roll out and own Mosaic's new performance management system. These aren't bureaucratic rituals - they're the operating system that keeps a high-performing team aligned. This isn't about building an HR department. It's about building the infrastructure that lets exceptional people do exceptional work - and making sure they know it, feel it, and stay. Why Mosaic We're not going to sell you on ping pong tables and unlimited PTO. Here's what we will tell you: No one here is too senior to roll up their sleeves and no one is too junior to challenge an idea. If that sounds soft, you haven't seen what a team built on trust can do at full speed. We're in the office every day in Houston. That's intentional. We believe proximity accelerates growth, and growth here is real. You won't be boxed into a narrow HR lane or buried under a compliance backlog. You'll sit at the table with leadership - not as a support function, but as a strategic voice with real authority. When you say "we need to rethink how we're developing this team," people will listen. Not because it's polite, but because they've seen what happens when they do. Most people leaders spend their careers fighting for a seat at the table. At Mosaic, the seat is already there. This is a team of missionaries, not mercenaries. Compensation is straightforward: Mosaic pays well and ties it to your contribution, not your tenure or a formula. Your only job is to pour into this team and this culture - and we'll make sure you're rewarded for it. The work is intellectually stimulating, financially rewarding, and emotionally nourishing. Not one of those three. All of them. If you've been told that's not realistic, you've been working at the wrong place. Who Thrives Here Smart, hardworking, and honest are the minimum barriers to entry at Mosaic. To thrive in this role, you need something beyond credentials: You might be a fit if: • You're obnoxiously curious and relentlessly resourceful, • You coach, build, plan, and spot patterns - often simultaneously, • You hold high standards, help others rise to them, and don't shy away from honest conversations, • You've worked in a founder-led or entrepreneurial environment and understand the pace, • You need a fully built system before you can operate effectively, • You treat an Employee Handbook as the final word without recognizing the human element, • You prefer defined lanes over broad ownership, • You manage people but don't develop them — if your instinct is to process, not coach, this isn't the seat, • You lead from behind a desk or a policy manual instead of from the floor, • Hard conversations make you uncomfortable enough to avoid them or delay them, • In-person, office-based culture isn't your preference What Success Looks Like • No surprises - every team member knows exactly where they stand, what's expected, and what growth looks like. Performance conversations are ongoing, not annual ambushes., • Zero involuntary attrition from confusion - every role has clear responsibilities, clear goals, and clear accountability. If someone struggles, it's not because the job was never defined., • High performers stay and grow - your coaching, development paths, and culture work make Mosaic a place people don't want to leave., • Goal setting is alive, not decorative - you've rolled out and own Mosaic's new performance management system, and every team member has aligned, actionable goals they actually reference., • Engagement is measured and acted on - you've launched the HPJ Best Places to Work survey, taken the feedback seriously, and turned it into real improvements the team can feel., • Department leads are coached up - you're running recurring meetings and 1:1s with a genuine performance mindset, helping leaders become better coaches themselves., • The culture scales - as headcount grows, the values, trust, and collaboration that define Mosaic don't dilute. They get stronger. That's your doing. Qualifications • 5+ years in strategic HR, talent management, human capital, or people operations, • SHRM, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred, with demonstrated HR best practices, • Familiarity with OKR goal-setting, KPI dashboards, performance frameworks, and org design, • You've read more org design books than most people have read novels - and you've actually applied what you learned, • Exposure to founder-led businesses or high-growth entrepreneurial teams strongly preferred, • Energized by in-office, collaborative work environments - this is not a behind-the-desk role Compensation & Benefits • Base Salary: starting at $100,000, • Annual Bonus: Up to 20% of salary, • 401(k) with 6.0% company match and immediate vesting, • Health, Dental, Vision, Disability & Life insurance, • Generous Paid Time Off including vacation, sick leave, and 12 holidays How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and why this role was tailor-made for you to . Our process includes: • A ~30-minute introductory screening call, • A case study with leadership, • A free-flowing conversation with department leads You've spent your career believing that people are actually the point - not the line item. This is your chance to prove it, with a team that already believes it too. Let's talk.
