Job DescriptionDescription: Position Overview Performs skilled technical work supporting the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of H2GO’s wastewater collection system; and performs a variety of related duties as assigned. This position is designated as essential during emergency or disaster situations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Collections Superintendent. Essential Job Functions • Adheres to and enforces stated safety policies and procedures. Provides leadership and works with staff to ensure a customer-service oriented work environment that supports achieving the department’s and H2GO’s mission, plans, objectives, and values., • Plans and directs the operation, maintenance and repair of the wastewater collection system and sewage lift stations., • Supervises and directs the correction of customer complaints, sewage blockages, accidental spills and emergency-related problems., • Monitors the results of projects underway and their completion schedules., • Develops routine preventive maintenance programs for H2GO facilities, equipment, buildings, and structures., • Assists in the development of specifications for equipment for the wastewater collection system., • Coordinates the development of long-range capital improvement program for the wastewater collection system., • Investigates complaints relative to the operation of the wastewater collection system and initiates appropriate actions to resolve the issues., • Develops estimates for the repair, maintenance and construction activities of the wastewater collections system., • Supervises subordinate employees in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collections system., • Recommends priority of projects and methods of doing work., • Prepares work schedules and assigns workers and equipment to the various crews and assignments., • Instructs support personnel in proper procedures for maintenance and repair of facilities., • Repairs force mains and install sewer mains., • Plans and supervises programs related to preventative maintenance., • Inspects, dismantles, repairs, lubricates, and overhauls machinery and equipment., • Estimates needs and requests supplies, materials, tools, and equipment., • Prepares and maintains records of cost, inventories, and expenditures. Prepares annual budget requests., • Moves heavy equipment and devices by use of hoist, crane, pulleys, or other means., • Responds to emergency calls for assistance when available, and accepts standby duty as needed., • Conducts regular inspections of the sewage collection system, and generators, and directs repairs and correction of deficiencies., • Directs operational changes during emergencies., • Identifies capital improvements to improve efficiency, cost savings, and customer satisfaction., • Maintains easements., • Ensures the future reliability of sewer pump stations by overseeing complex rehabilitation, construction, and overhaul of same., • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other utilities and political subdivisions., • Assists other departments in carrying out their function when help is needed., • This position is responsible for creating a culture of belonging and inclusion., • Work in partnership with all H2GO departments to achieve organizational goals., • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements: Education, Experience, and Other Requirements • High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and considerable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience., • This position requires a NC Wastewater Collections System Class I Operators Certification and 1 year of related work experience., • Operate and maintain leak detection equipment., • Operating heavy equipment, small engine powered equipment & hand tools., • Ability to read maps/blueprints and document required records and communicate with customers as well as work on jobs independently and in teams. This job operates in the field. The field environment consists of all types of terrain and weather conditions. May be exposed to strenuous and often time hazardous working conditions, including but not limited to, harsh and dangerous chemicals, direct sun light, moving equipment, high traffic areas, pressurized water lines, heights, confined spaces, trenches, darkness, electrical and hydraulic energy, etc. Protective equipment and clothing may be required. This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, standing, walking and reaching; work has standard vision requirements; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; Work requires the ability to maintain a high level of cognitive function and concentration to perform detailed analysis and execute critical thinking.
