Job DescriptionDescription: POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Chief Medical Physicist, the Senior Medical Dosimetrist will work with information provided by physicians to plan radiation treatments for patients. Develops and presents a series of therapy plans for appraisal and approval by the attending physician or through a group critique. Provide control liaison between the attending physician and the therapists treating the patient. Initiate projects in additional areas, which may include teaching, research, in-service education, or quality assurance. In addition to fulfilling essential clinical responsibilities, the Medical Dosimetrist is expected to embody the shared values and professional standards that guide our organizational culture and partnership pathway. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assists the radiation oncologist in delineating the target volume and potentially critical structures, using patient contours, radiographs, CT scans, and other diagnostic studies, including CT-MRI registration., • Develop 2-D, 3-D, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, and SBRT external beam treatment plans for the approval of radiation oncologists, either manually or utilizing a digital computer that will deliver a prescribed dose according to the Radiation Oncologist’s prescriptions while maintaining appropriate doses to dose-limiting structures., • Collaborates with radiation oncologists, physicists, and therapists in developing and implementing new treatment techniques., • Explain the treatment plan of the patient to the technical staff to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of the patient set-up., • Fabricates a variety of devices to assure patient setup reproducibility and to shape photon and electron beams as required by specific treatment plans., • Reviews simulation and port films to ensure accurate reproduction of the treatment plan., • Transfers Rx data electronically and documents all required information in the patient’s chart within Aria, plus enters appropriate charges., • As requested by the attending radiation oncologists and or Physicist, performs in-vivo dose verifications, measuring doses directly on the patient during radiation treatment., • Participates in TGH/MGB Treatment Planning meetings, presents dosimetric information at new patient conferences/huddles, and attends Departmental Chart Round Conference and other meetings as needed., • Participates in the development and reform of departmental policies and procedures., • Performs job duties and responsibilities in a manner that ensures customer satisfaction and promotes positive and constructive working relationships within the department., • Initiates or helps to develop a clinical research project that results in publication in a national journal or improvement in treatment modality., • Assist the clinical physicists in the ongoing quality assurance program for computer equipment or formally participate in the departmental quality assurance committee., • Under the supervision and direction of the Chief Medical Physicist, provide support in radiation protection, machine calibrations, and quality assurance on departmental equipment, • Be familiar with and assist as needed with emergency shutdown procedures and data backup procedures., • Adheres to and promotes safety and regulatory standards., • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of CCSF., • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. Clinical Quality & Efficiency • Deliver timely and complete documentation of treatment plans plus accurate billing., • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in medical dosimetry and apply best practices., • Demonstrate personal reliability and efficiency in managing patient treatment plans. Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Collegiality • Collaborate with physicians, physicists, therapists, and administrative staff to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care., • Participate in tumor boards, case reviews, and care planning discussions., • Maintain respectful, supportive relationships with colleagues and contribute to a positive work culture., • Share professional insights in a constructive and collegial manner; resolve conflicts respectfully., • Strong critical thinking and decision-making in complex treatment planning., • Ability to clearly communicate with the clinical team and work in a multidisciplinary environment, while promoting collegiality and mutual respect. Payor Relations & Value-Based Care • Develop treatment plans that are aligned with CCSF’s quality standards and value-based outcomes., • Avoid payor disputes or negative feedback by ensuring accurate documentation and billing. Continuous Learning, Research & Leadership • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs)., • Identify needs and set goals for own growth and development, • Attend scientific meetings, professional conferences, and continuing education activities., • Participate in clinical research, quality improvement projects, and the implementation of new techniques., • Maintain mandatory annual training and competency in all standards relevant to job performance. Regulatory & Ethical Compliance • Complies with the department's policies and procedures, and all applicable accreditation standards, FCA, AKS, and the Stark Law, and regulations, including those regarding patient confidentiality, such as, but not limited to, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, P. L. 104-191 ('HIPAA'), and the rules and regulations implemented hereunder., • Follow CCSF’s internal policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines., • Maintain a valid, unrestricted medical license and promote a culture of compliance and accountability., • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from accredited four (4) year medical dosimetry program., • Required: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or an accredited radiation therapy technology program (with certification in radiation therapy technology), supplemented by successful completion of a dosimetry training program. On-the-job training for a period of two (2) years may be substituted for formal dosimetry training. Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board. Degree is recommended., • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Medical Dosimetry required. REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION: • Board Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (Certified Medical Dosimetrist) upon hire REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES: • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word., • General IT Network & Security knowledge., • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
