Job Description Job Title: General Production Worker (2nd Shift) Job Description This entry-level general production role supports multiple functions across the meat-processing production area. The position focuses on general labor tasks, maintaining sanitation and safety standards, and assisting with equipment setup, operation support, and cleanup. You will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, follow established procedures such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations, and help ensure efficient, safe, and consistent production on the 2nd shift. Responsibilities • Follow all company policies and procedures related to meat processing, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations., • Maintain all production areas in clean and sanitary condition throughout the shift., • Identify and promptly communicate any issues that may lead to unsanitary conditions to the appropriate supervisor., • Remove product and packing materials from the floor to maintain a safe and organized work area., • Properly dispose of and accurately track inedible products according to company guidelines., • Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas to designated locations., • Stage production areas with empty containers and necessary materials to prepare for the following shift., • Assist with preparing and disassembling meat-processing equipment for production and sanitation activities., • Support the collection, opening, and reuse of rework materials, ensuring proper identification of product and line to prevent cross-contamination and allergen issues., • Relieve co-workers for breaks by temporarily assisting in other positions as needed., • Accurately complete all assigned paperwork and documentation in a timely manner., • Assist in training new employees by demonstrating proper procedures and reinforcing safety and quality standards., • Check in with the appropriate supervisor before the end of the shift to receive any additional pass-down instructions or shutdown activities., • Visually inspect product cases to ensure labels and code dates are present, clear, and legible., • Make basic adjustments to machinery to support smooth production, including changing tape, code dates, ink, paper, film, cardboard, or pallets., • Operate a manual hand jack as needed to move materials and product safely., • Promptly communicate all equipment malfunctions or irregularities to the appropriate personnel., • Prepare supplies, ingredients, and workstations so the next shift can begin operations efficiently., • Stage ingredients in 50 lb containers to maintain consistent product flow through the line., • Arrange meat products as instructed and according to production specifications., • Continuously comb, hang, transport, and stack product as part of the production process., • Inspect products on the conveyor belt for quality specifications and remove nonconforming items as required., • Perform all job duties accurately, efficiently, and safely while meeting expected production and quality standards., • Stand and walk throughout the entire shift while maintaining focus and attention to detail., • Lift and carry items weighing at least 50 lbs as part of regular job duties. Essential Skills • Dependable and detail-oriented, with the ability to consistently follow established processes., • Ability to follow directions accurately and work under minimal supervision., • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and in a timely manner., • Willingness to work weekends and overtime hours as needed based on production demands., • Ability to multi-task safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment., • Capability to stand and walk for the entire shift while performing repetitive tasks., • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs on a regular basis., • Comfort working around meat, food products, and cold storage environments., • Attention to detail for tasks such as visual inspection of labels, code dates, and product quality., • Ability to use both hands for handling, reaching, and operating tools and equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in general labor, production, or food manufacturing environments is beneficial., • Experience working in cold storage, cold food, meat processing, or meat cutting environments is helpful., • Comfort operating basic material handling tools such as a manual hand jack., • Ability to assist with basic mechanical adjustments on production equipment, such as changing tape, film, or other consumables., • Willingness to learn and follow GMP and HACCP procedures in a meat-processing facility., • Capability to assist in training new employees and supporting team development. Work Environment This position operates in a manufacturing facility focused on meat and food production. You will regularly work around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to high or elevated work areas. The environment includes both colder areas, around 30 degrees, and warmer temperature zones, requiring comfort with temperature changes throughout the shift. The noise level is typically high, and appropriate hearing protection and safety equipment are provided as required. The role is physically demanding and involves standing and walking constantly throughout the shift; using hands and fingers to handle, reach, and feel; and frequently climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. You will regularly lift and carry at least 50 lbs and use both hands to perform tasks safely. The schedule is on 2nd shift, with the expectation of weekend and overtime work as production needs require. The facility emphasizes safe work practices, adherence to GMP and HACCP standards, and maintaining a clean, organized production area. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Davenport, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
