Job Description SUMMARY The Automation Specialist is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing automated machinery and computer-controlled mechanical systems. This role supports complex automation projects and ensures equipment reliability within a manufacturing or industrial environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Adhere to all applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures., • Follow and commit to safety practices and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)., • Support automation projects, including installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and troubleshooting of automated equipment., • Lead or contribute to process improvement initiatives and cross-functional project teams., • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and control-related issues., • Utilize Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), including basic and ladder logic, to read/write wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints for troubleshooting., • Compile documentation, analyze test data, and determine root causes and corrective actions., • Read, interpret, update, and create mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical schematics and drawings., • Plan and install equipment utilities, including power, pneumatic, and data services., • Serve as a technical resource to less experienced technicians and maintenance personnel., • Train other technicians as needed., • Use computerized maintenance systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent) for preventive maintenance and work order processes. QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES) Education & Experience (one of the following required): • Associate’s degree in automation or a related field plus three (3) years of experience with automated manufacturing equipment, OR, • Ability to read, write, interpret, and create mechanical and electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints., • Strong understanding of NFPA 70 (Electrical Code)., • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems., • Advanced knowledge of industrial controls and instrumentation., • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex problems., • Ability to modify PLCs using advanced ladder logic and interpret associated documentation., • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English., • Math skills including decimals, fractions, algebra, and geometry., • Familiarity with or ability to learn statistical and quality methodologies (e.g., SPC, SQC, 5S, 8D, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, Gage R&R, DOE)., • Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, hand tools, and portable power tools., • Ability to obtain and maintain a Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT • Frequent exposure to heat, noise, dirt, dust, odors, and fumes., • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, and work in varying temperatures., • Occasional to frequent use of visual acuity and color recognition., • Frequently lift 10–25 lbs; occasionally lift 25–50 lbs., • Regularly ascend/descend ladders, scaffolding, and similar equipment., • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required., • May require extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
