Job Description Job Title: Fabrication Welder – Night Shift Job Description This role focuses on fabricating, welding, and finishing custom components and structures within a machining and engineering environment. You will work on project-based assignments such as machine guards, jigs, racks, conveyors, platforms, and material handling or storage items, using primarily MIG welding with some TIG welding. You will operate a variety of fabrication equipment, work with multiple metals, and contribute to both functional design and production on the shop floor. Responsibilities • Fabricate and weld custom components and assemblies for various applications, including machine guards, subcomponents for repairs, jigs, racks, conveyors, platforms, and material handling or storage items., • Perform primarily MIG welding with some TIG welding to produce high-quality welds that meet safety and performance requirements., • Work with metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, selecting appropriate techniques and settings for each material., • Operate fabrication equipment, including shears, press brakes, water jets, iron workers, and vertical saws, to cut, form, and prepare materials., • Collaborate with the machining and engineering teams to interpret project requirements and ensure components meet design specifications., • Assist in developing and refining designs for furniture and fixtures used on machines and manufacturing lines, providing practical input from the shop floor., • Paint and finish industrial components to specified standards to ensure durability and a professional appearance., • Read, interpret, and complete work orders communicated through the system and from personnel on previous shifts., • Communicate effectively with team members on other shifts to understand project status, requirements, and any special instructions., • Maintain a safe and organized work area, following all safety procedures and proper use of equipment., • Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, making adjustments as needed., • Support project-based work by managing priorities, meeting deadlines, and adapting to changing requirements. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience with MIG welding in an industrial or fabrication environment., • Experience with TIG welding for selected applications and materials., • Proven fabrication experience, including cutting, forming, and assembling metal components., • Ability to operate fabrication equipment such as shears, press brakes, water jets, iron workers, and vertical saws., • Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum., • Capability to read and follow work orders and project instructions communicated through a system and from other personnel., • Ability to work with minimal training and operate effectively with a small team on the shift., • Strong communication skills to coordinate with previous and subsequent shifts., • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, safe, and reliable components. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Project-related fabrication experience, including custom builds and one-off projects., • Experience assisting with design or layout of furniture and fixtures for machines and manufacturing lines., • Comfort working in a creative center environment where custom solutions and new ideas are encouraged., • Willingness to learn and adapt to new automated equipment and technologies., • Ability to contribute to continuous improvement of designs and fabrication processes. Work Environment This position is based in a climate-controlled industrial facility with a dedicated machining and engineering area. You will work primarily on the night shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Initial training may occur on alternative shifts, such as 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate scheduling needs. You will work closely with one other person on your shift, using equipment such as shears, press brakes, water jets, iron workers, and vertical saws, as well as welding and painting tools. The facility provides an on-site cafeteria for employee use. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and collaboration across shifts, with work orders communicated through both digital systems and direct handoffs between personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Durham, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
