Job Description Town of Brookline, Massachusetts Department of Public Works – Fleet Maintenance Division Salary: $32.77 hourly | 40 hours weekly The Town of Brookline is seeking an Automotive Parts Specialist / Fleet Parts Storekeeper to join the Department of Public Works' Fleet Maintenance Division. The Automotive Parts Specialist/Storekeeper will be responsible for a variety of manual and administrative tasks related to the acquisition, storage, and distribution of parts, tools, and supplies essential for the repair and maintenance of municipal vehicles and heavy equipment. This position plays a critical role in keeping the Department of Public Works' fleet operational and well-maintained. As the Fleet Parts Specialist, you will manage inventory, order parts and materials, maintain accurate records, and coordinate repairs with outside service personnel. The role requires working closely with mechanics and department staff to ensure that the fleet is properly equipped and running efficiently. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Ensure the department has all necessary materials to complete vehicle and equipment repairs., • Complete and track purchase orders for automotive and fleet parts; order gas, diesel, oils, antifreeze, and tires for municipal vehicles., • Maintain a detailed inventory of fleet parts, tools, and materials in a computer database, including tracking hazardous materials and waste products., • Track and manage fuel usage, including maintaining a log and monitoring fuel system data., • Communicate with suppliers, vendors, and outside service personnel to procure parts and schedule equipment repairs., • Ensure the service area remains clean and organized, with all waste, parts, and oils handled and disposed of properly., • Read technical manuals and work with laborers to ensure the correct parts are ordered and retrieved for repairs., • Order and track winter supplies and stay current on new equipment used for construction and maintenance. High school diploma or equivalent; five years of experience related to automotive repair, parts procurement, and inventory management for heavy motor equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: • Knowledge of vehicle repair, fleet maintenance techniques, and inventory control practices., • Ability to assess department needs, plan purchases, and manage relationships with suppliers., • Strong problem-solving and communication skills., • Skill in reading technical manuals, work orders, and maintaining detailed inventory records., • Ability to work independently and follow department procedures and regulations., • Skill in operating a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of vehicles and machinery.
