Civil Construction Survey Party Chief - SW OH

Job Description JOB PURPOSE The Survey Party Chief role is responsible for verification of project control and construction surveys; specifically, the layout of structures, including bridges, retaining walls, and noise walls. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Promotes safety, quality, efficiency, and core values, • Accurately reads and interprets engineering plans, • Assists the survey manager in scheduling with project superintendents and survey coordinator, • Actively communicates with the project superintendent, survey manager, or coordinator daily or as needed, • Generates all project stakeout data information from survey software, • Operates survey instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other standard survey equipment to collect field data, • Interprets construction plans, performs necessary calculations in the field, and performs construction layout, • Creates legible and accurate field notes, • Uploads/downloads data files and photographs, • Sets up, maintains, and operates all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies, • Provides technical expertise to staff and customers Education • Minimum of five years of experience as a Survey Crew member, • Minimum of two years of experience utilizing GPS and Robotic Survey Equipment, • Carlson software experience preferred, • Bridge experience preferred, • Proficient in the use of robotic tool stations, • Proficient written and verbal skills, attention to detail, • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Autodesk and other third party software programs, • Proficient in Carlson SurvPC and Topcon Magnet, • Proactive, self-motivating, problem solver, • Knowledge of tolerances, accuracies, and adjustments of survey equipment, • Ability to demonstrate leadership traits, including the ability to make decisions with integrity This is a full-time position, and the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to support time-sensitive issues as they arise. However, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT The majority of the work is performed in a non-smoking office. The work primarily takes place indoors. However, there may be outdoor fieldwork and travel, which could be a significant part of the role. Depending on the project, department, or business demands, overnight stays may be expected. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS An employee must meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employees must have the ability to: • Sit (or stand) for prolonged periods of time, • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, • Occasionally walk up and down the stairs, • Demonstrate visual acuity with or without corrected vision, • Demonstrate hearing acuity with or without corrected hearing, • Must be able to walk outdoor construction sites with uneven terrain and obstacles "The Great Lakes Way ...
