Job Description The Salvation Army is seeking responsible, caring individuals to help create a welcoming, engaging, and spiritually enriching environment for youth on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. In this role, you will supervise minors, lead Bible studies, assist with lesson and activity planning, and provide consistent mentorship. Teen Mentors help ensure that every youth feels seen and supported, and that parents feel confident in the care their children receive. Wage: $14.70 per hour POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Ministry Helper supports the spiritual, emotional, and social development of teens through Christ-centered relationship building, program leadership, and mentoring. Working under the direction of the Youth Ministry Lead, the Youth Ministry Helper assists with planning and facilitating weekly youth programs, leads small group Bible studies, and provides a consistent, positive adult presence for teens. QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be at least 18 years of age., • Have at least one year of demonstrable experience working with youths., • Required CPR/First Aid/AED certification at hire, or ability to be certified within 30 days of hire., • Ability to pass a criminal background check., • Must take and retain PTM protocols in providing direct service to children., • Must demonstrate Christian conduct and character, especially when providing care for youth., • Must be theologically aligned with The Salvation Army’s Christian doctrines., • Preferred experience in evangelism, mentoring, and discipleship., • Must have a positive attitude toward work, helping others, and caring for youth., • Assist Youth Ministry Lead in the weekly planning, development, and execution of the Friday teen program., • Conduct devotional thoughts as assigned., • Lead assigned Bible Study small groups., • Help plan devotionals and activities for troops., • Take down the Jr. Church classroom on Sundays after church service., • Help to set up and take down Wednesdays for troops, • Acknowledging that each mentoring relationship is unique, the mentor will:, • Build rapport with teens through positive and interactive relationships., • Encourage teens to embrace the teachings of Jesus and the tenets of the Christian faith., • Provide spiritual and emotional support., • Communicate, in a timely manner, any child, parent, or staff issues with the Youth Ministry Lead or Assistant Corps Officer., • Maintain confidentiality., • Always adhere to the dress code., • Interface respectfully with peers, supervisors, parents, guardians, and children of various socioeconomic backgrounds., • Handle disputes professionally, with guidance from ministry staff., • Attend staff meetings as assigned., • Complete all required trainings., • Adhere to Kroc operations and all Salvation Army policies and procedures., • Observe all safety rules and regulations., • Follow up with completion of appropriate paperwork as directed., • Maintain compliance with the Code of Ethics for the Kroc Center. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
