Job Description As the Head of Customs AI, you will sit at the intersection of agentic AI, regulatory precision, and operational excellence. Your leadership will shape how our AI Customs product is built, validated, and adopted—and redefine what compliant, scalable customs execution looks like for the entire industry. You’ll bring deep operational and regulatory expertise into a fast-growing startup where accuracy and domain knowledge are mission critical. Your insights will directly influence our core automation models and the end-to-end workflows used by some of the world’s largest freight forwarders and brokers. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations • Detailed knowledge about the day-to-day operations of the customs entry processes (ISF, entry filings, PGA’s, post entry adjustments, protests, petitions) and all aspects of timely and compliant clearance of all import shipments., • Oversee workload distribution, performance management, and staff development., • Experience with complex customs issues and client inquiries., • Create, maintain and continually improve operational processes (SOP, policies, risk assessments, KPI’s. interna;/external controls) to improve efficiency and accuracy in an ideal way and adopt various operating systems., • Oversee end-to-end Customs entry processes with granular technical oversight, ensuring operational efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in all Customs activities Compliance & Regulatory Oversight • Full knowledge of all compliance related matters with CBP regulations, Partner Government Agencies (PGAs), and other applicable laws., • Establish automation of auditable processes and documentation, including entry accuracy, recordkeeping, and reporting., • Monitor regulatory changes and update internal procedures accordingly., • Conduct periodic internal audits to identify gaps and drive corrective actions. Technology • Oversee all customs-related functions within various TMS systems, ensuring accurate data transmission and maximization of automating system features., • Train and support staff on workflows, templates, automation tools, and best practices., • Collaborate with IT/AI systems teams to optimize TMS configurations for brokerage operations., • Analyze compliance data and trends; leverage systems (e.g., ACE/ABI, screening/classification tools, BI dashboards, AI tools) to improve accuracy and speed, • Identify opportunities for digitization and automation by understanding the fundamentals of entry processing, organizational structure, and technical capabilities, • Partner with IT and process teams to implement scalable solutions that enhance operational efficiency and data integrity, • Advocate for technology adoption that aligns with business goals and customer expectation. Client & Vendor Relations • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, providing consultative support on customs processes., • Engage with TMS providers, carriers, CBP, and other regulatory stakeholders to resolve issues., • Support business development by offering subject-matter expertise during client onboarding and sales initiatives.
