Job DescriptionJob Title: Journeyman Electrician Job Description This role focuses on commercial electrical rough-in work, including reading and interpreting rough-in prints, installing conduit and raceways, and performing panel wiring and terminations on high-rise and deck projects. The Journeyman Electrician works independently and as part of a team to install and troubleshoot electrical systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant installations on local NYC projects. Responsibilities • Perform rough-in electrical work for commercial projects, including layout, installation, and preparation for final connections., • Read and interpret rough-in prints, drawings, and plans to determine material needs, routing, and installation methods., • Install conduit systems, including EMT and other raceways, and perform precise conduit bending for clean and code-compliant installations., • Install and work with electrical raceways, including deck work, high-rise deck work, and Smurf tube installations for electrical layouts., • Perform riser work, including installing electric risers and conduit risers for vertical distribution of power., • Install Kindorf racks and related support systems for electrical equipment and raceways., • Pull service wire, MC cable, and BX cable for power and lighting circuits throughout the project., • Install outlets, switches, devices, boxes, and panels, ensuring proper mounting, alignment, and secure connections., • Perform terminations on panels, switchgear, and devices, including clean and accurate terminations for safe operation., • Troubleshoot electrical systems, including panels, circuits, and three-way switch configurations, to diagnose and resolve issues., • Install, wire, and troubleshoot switchgear and service equipment to ensure reliable power distribution., • Perform splicing of cables and conductors in accordance with electrical codes and best practices., • Complete electrical deck work, including layout, raceway installation, and preparation for concrete pours on high-rise projects., • Work independently and efficiently to complete assigned tasks, demonstrating strong technical ability in pipe work, panel wiring, and switching circuits., • Collaborate with foremen and other team members, following direction and communicating progress or issues as needed., • Sign in and out daily with the foreman, accurately recording name and time in and out as required on each project site., • Maintain all required certifications and carry necessary documentation (such as SST and OSHA cards) while on site., • Use appropriate tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times to maintain a safe working environment., • Meet performance expectations related to attitude, speed, quality of work, and confidence in working independently.Essential Skills, • 8+ years of commercial electrical experience., • Strong ability to perform rough-in electrical work, including layout, installation, and preparation for final connections., • Ability to read and interpret rough-in prints and electrical drawings., • Proficiency in installing conduit and raceways, including conduit bending and pipe work., • Experience with electrical deck work, including high-rise deck work and Smurf tube installations., • Hands-on experience with raceways, electrical raceways, and deck work for commercial projects., • Proficiency in riser work, including electric risers and conduit risers., • Experience installing Kindorf racks and related support structures., • Ability to pull service wire, MC cable, and BX cable efficiently and safely., • Skilled in installing outlets, switches, devices, boxes, and panels., • Proficiency in performing electrical terminations on panels, switchgear, and devices., • Experience troubleshooting electrical systems, including panels, circuits, and three-way switch wiring., • Knowledge of switchgear installation, service work, and related terminations., • Strong understanding of conduit installation, including bending and routing for clean, code-compliant work., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality standards., • SST 10-hour certification., • OSHA 30 certification., • Lift certification for operating lifts safely on site.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working on high-rise projects and complex commercial installations., • Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic on fast-paced job sites., • Proven track record of working efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship., • Comfort working with foremen and project teams, accepting feedback, and adapting to project needs., • Familiarity with local NYC commercial construction practices and standards., • Ability to manage tools, materials, and documentation (such as certifications) in an organized manner.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based on commercial construction sites within New York City, with all projects local to the area. Standard start time is 7:00 a.m., and you must sign in and out each day with the foreman, recording your name and time in and out. The work environment involves active construction settings, including high-rise and deck work, where you install conduit, raceways, risers, panels, and switchgear. You must have all required personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and your SST and OSHA 30 certifications with you at all times while on site. You will be evaluated closely on your technical ability in pipe work, panel wiring, and three-way switch wiring, as well as your attitude, speed, and confidence working independently. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and safety-focused, with frequent use of lifts and other equipment consistent with commercial electrical construction. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.00/hr.
