THE OPPORTUNITY The Staten Island Justice Center (Justice Center; SIJC) offers an array of programming for both youth and adults in Staten Island, focusing on engaging those with current or past justice involvement. The Justice Center provides judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys with alternative community sentencing options that hold individuals accountable in a way that is meaningful, proportionate, and restorative. The goal is to provide participants with individual and group services that help them to avoid future contact with the justice system and promote swift case resolutions that bolster public confidence in justice. The Staten Island Justice Center is seeking a Program Associate for its Diversion programming. Reporting to the Coordinator of Client Engagement, the Program Associate will support the engagement of Diversion-eligible individuals by conducting initial outreach, preliminary intakes, schedule programming, update compliance and lead completion protocols, facilitate off-ramps from programming, connect participants to resources and referrals, manage case files and records, and build awareness of the program among potential participants and legal and court stakeholders. The Program Associate will also support the Diversion team with regular operations, as needed. The court responds creatively to low-level offending, seeking alternatives that are restorative to the community. In keeping with that goal, Midtown also operates upstream programming to divert adults and young people from prosecution. The Center for Justice Innovation operates Project Reset, New York City's pre-arraignment diversion program, city-wide. Operating in collaboration with the New York Police Department, District Attorney’s Offices, and the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, Project Reset seeks to create a proportionate response to low-level crime by avoiding the use of incarceration and the potential harms associated with the traditional criminal justice process. Traditionally, Project Reset participants complete programming in advance of their court date in lieu of prosecution. Recently, the Midtown Community Justice Center began offering Rapid Reset, which offers the same diversion opportunity to Project Reset-eligible people who show up to court. Reporting to the Project Reset Program Coordinator, the Program Associate will be staffed on the Midtown Community Justice Center’s Diversion team. THE OPPORTUNITY The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking a Senior Counselor to join a team of staff—including social workers, mental health counselors, and case managers—who work with defendants participating in the Manhattan Felony Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) Court. The ATI Court, which is led by Administrative Judge Ellen Biben, seeks to forge a new response to individuals charged with felonies by linking them to community-based social services. The Court is the first of its kind, providing an innovative model for other jurisdictions seeking to develop and implement meaningful post-conviction sentencing options for individuals facing felony charges. Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Senior Counselor will be part of a team that provides neutral, third-party assessments and case management services to the ATI Court. The Senior Counselor will conduct independent clinical assessments, provide referrals to community-based services, offer comprehensive clinical case management, and monitor participant compliance. The Senior Counselor will be primarily responsible for supporting a caseload of high-risk need program participants and supervising a group of case managers. Additionally, in coordination with the Clinical Director, the Senior Counselor will help coordinate compliance updates on ATI Court calendar days, help identify gaps in services and forge new partnerships with community-based providers to fill those needs, serve as the team’s training liaison to identify internal training needs and coordinate trainings for staff, and coordinate with the Office Manager regarding participant supplies and other needs. An essential and dynamic feature of the Senior Counselor’s role will be in close collaboration with key stakeholders. The Senior Counselor will work regularly with the judge and court staff from New York County Supreme Court who oversee the Felony ATI Court, as well as with other stakeholders, including the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and New York City defense organizations. Court-based social work is an exciting, unique, and demanding area of practice, and the Senior Counselor role involves navigating and constructively engaging with differing and, at times, competing stakeholder perspectives. They also observe and support the Cruise Director at events to ensure an engaging, entertaining, and informative execution in their absence., • The Activity Manager collaborates with all accountable parties to ensure activity venues are safe to operate and in good working order. They audit and inspect all recreation spaces and attractions, maintain compliance with all internal and external regulations and policies, and promptly create Service Orders in AIMS to remedy any damaged equipment.
