___Job ID84920 LocationSacramento Full/Part TimeFull Time ______ This position is within UC Davis Health's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) office. Primary responsibilities include providing management and oversight of a comprehensive hazardous waste program including hazardous chemicals, infectious medical waste, asbestos, and carcinogens as well as management of hazardous materials as defined in the CA Health and Safety Code and Cal OSHA and oversight of the Joint Commission Environment of Care Hazardous Materials chapter. Each responsibility includes a duty to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and to use innovative approaches to solve complex issues related to sustainability initiatives that affect use of chemicals and waste minimization. This position may represent the UCDH Health and Safety Officer, as assigned, and participate in an on call EH&S Administrator on Duty rotation. Provide support, maintain programs, and resolve issues on behalf of EH&S Leadership when requested. Assist with supporting a complex department with multiple functional disciplines/occupations that has impact upon the organization as a whole. Has responsibility for or administering policies and programs, and functions with autonomy. Years of educational experience may be substituted for years of previous work experience., • Demonstrated skill and knowledge to assess hazardous wastes presented for disposal to determine classification, segregation, appropriate labeling, handling, and disposal options., • Skill and working knowledge to determine wastes that are appropriate to combine for bulk disposal and then properly package and label hazardous waste for transportation and disposal., • Must have knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations and know how to find appropriate sections of the regulations. Knowledge of hazardous materials management and reporting requirements., • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and Spill Response., • Skill in conducting in-service training and education programs., • Skills in use of but no limited to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint databases, e-mail systems, internet and etc., • Must demonstrate basic level verbal and written communication skills., • Professional certification as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), American Board of Industrial Hygiene professional certification (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)., • Advanced degree in Health and Safety, Chemistry Engineering, Public Health or similar relevant field and progressive health and safety responsibilities., • Safety related experience working in an academic or healthcare setting., • Advanced knowledge in Cal OSHA, NIOSH and DOT as it related to management of hazardous materials and waste., • Direct knowledge of data management in CERS for reporting of hazardous materials business plans (HMBP) and USTs., • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI databases, chemical database management, e-mail systems, internet and etc., • Advanced level verbal and written communication skills., • 40% - Hazardous Materials Management Program, • 40% - Hazardous Waste Management Program, • 10% - EH&S Support of the Joint Commission Physical Environment Programs Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) provides UC Davis Health with accident prevention, industrial hygiene, environmental protection, occupational safety, and exposure control expertise.
