Job DescriptionJob Title: Sample Prep Technician Job Description The Sample Prep Technician prepares samples for analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmental samples in a microbiology testing laboratory. This role follows approved microbiological techniques and methodologies to ensure accurate and reliable analytical results and supports the broader laboratory team by maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant work area. Responsibilities • Prepare samples for microbiological and chemistry analysis in accordance with approved laboratory methods and standard operating procedures., • Apply aseptic techniques consistently to prevent contamination and ensure the integrity of all samples and tests., • Maintain laboratory media and reagents, including preparation, labeling, storage, and monitoring of expiration dates., • Clean and sanitize the work area, glassware, and equipment to support a safe, orderly, and compliant laboratory environment., • Perform quality control monitoring by recording incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, and running media controls as required., • Perform plating procedures accurately for microbiological testing, following established protocols and documentation requirements., • Follow specific directions and standard operating procedures with strong attention to detail to support reliable analytical and microbiological testing., • Collaborate with laboratory staff to support daily testing workflows and meet turnaround time expectations.Essential Skills, • Background in the sciences, such as biology, microbiology, or a related scientific discipline., • At least 12 months of laboratory experience; academic laboratory experience is acceptable., • Demonstrated ability to apply aseptic technique in a laboratory setting., • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling samples, reagents, and documentation., • Ability to follow specific directions and written standard operating procedures (SOPs)., • Familiarity with basic laboratory practices and terminology related to microbiology and chemistry., • Capability to perform routine laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, plating, and media handling.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Education or coursework in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or other scientific fields., • Experience working in a microbiology or analytical testing laboratory environment., • Comfort with laboratory support activities such as cleaning, organizing, and maintaining supplies., • Interest in developing laboratory skills and advancing within a food safety or microbiology-focused lab setting.Work Environment This position is based in a microbiology testing laboratory focused on food products, ingredients, and environmental samples. The role follows a Tuesday through Saturday first-shift schedule, providing consistent daytime hours with weekend work as part of the regular shift. The environment is highly regulated and process-driven, with standard laboratory equipment, incubators, media, and glassware used daily. Team members follow strict aseptic techniques, cleaning, and sanitation procedures to maintain a safe and compliant workspace. The laboratory culture supports learning and provides opportunities for advancement within the lab, encouraging the development of technical skills and professional growth. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Green Bay, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
