Job DescriptionNow Hiring Construction Worker Field‑Based | Cedar Rapids Area Start your career in construction materials testing with hands‑on field work, paid certifications, and clear advancement opportunities. We’re hiring a Construction Materials Testing Technician I to support commercial and transportation construction projects throughout the Cedar Rapids area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands‑on construction experience who enjoys working outdoors and wants to build a long‑term technical career. You’ll receive in‑depth training, industry certifications paid by the company, and ongoing support while working directly with experienced field and project teams. What You’ll Do • Perform sampling, testing, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, and asphalt, • Conduct field and laboratory tests in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes, • Accurately document field activities and test results using electronic reporting systems (daily), • Safely transport samples between job sites, laboratories, and project locations, • Work closely with project teams and lead technicians to meet quality, safety, and schedule requirements, • Communicate test results and observations clearly and professionally to project staff, • Read and interpret construction plans and specifications to understand testing scope and requirements, • Maintain testing equipment and tools; report issues promptly, • Assist with training and mentoring of entry‑level technicians when needed, • Follow all safety policies while working on active construction sitesWhat We’re Looking For (Required), • 1+ year of hands‑on experience in construction, landscaping, or related field work, • Interest in construction materials testing with the ability to learn technical procedures, • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications, • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate reporting, • Basic technical aptitude and willingness to pursue industry certifications, • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions, • Ability to regularly lift and carry 50–75 lbs, • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, • Ability to meet company MVR requirements, • Flexibility to work extended or non‑traditional hours as project demands requirePreferred (Nice to Have), • Experience with concrete work, carpentry, framing, or concrete finishing, • Prior exposure to construction materials testing (field or lab), • DOT, ICC, or other materials testing certifications, • Experience on commercial, transportation, or data center construction projects, • Strong written and verbal communication skillsWork Environment, • Field‑based role supporting active commercial, transportation, and data center construction sites, • Primarily outdoor work with exposure to varying weather, uneven terrain, noise, and construction activity, • Work alongside a team of approximately 8 materials testers, • Physically active role involving lifting, carrying equipment, and handling materials, • Use of mobile devices for daily reporting and standard testing equipment in field and lab settings, • Occasional extended or off‑shift hours based on testing and project schedulesWhy You’ll Want to Work Here, • Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP)—build long‑term wealth beyond your paycheck, • Company‑paid training, certifications, and licensure, • Pay increases and promotion opportunities with each new certification earned, • Fast advancement for high performers, • Comprehensive benefits package including:, • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, • Life insurance, • 401(k), • Paid time off and paid holidays, • Employee ownership participation This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
