Electric Motor Shop Manager Job Summary The Electric Motor Shop Manager oversees all operations of an electrical motor repair shop, managing repairs and refurbishments of AC and DC motors ranging from 0.5hp to 5000hp. The role includes supervising in-shop processes (rewinding, machining, teardowns, rebuilds) and launching a field services division focused on laser alignment, vibration analysis, and preventive maintenance. The manager ensures high-quality repairs, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction while maintaining safety and industry standards. This position is not open to relocation. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership • Supervise and mentor a team of technicians, winders, and machinists, fostering a culture of precision and accountability., • Coordinate training programs for staff to stay updated on modern technologies (e.g., computerized winding machines, laser alignment tools)., • Customer and Business Development, • Interface with clients to provide quotes, explain repair processes, and ensure transparency., • Support the launch of field services by identifying customer needs and promoting services like preventive maintenance and laser alignment., • Manage shop operations, including scheduling, inventory control (e.g., spare parts, magnet wire), and equipment maintenance (e.g., burnout ovens, winding machines)., • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, ISO 9001:2015 standards, and certifications like EASA or CSA for hazardous locations., • Supervise and guide technicians in diagnosing, disassembling, repairing, and reassembling AC and DC motors (0.5hp–5000hp)., • Oversee rewinding processes, ensuring proper coil design, insulation (e.g., Class N, VFD-rated wire), and varnish application per EASA standards., • Manage machining tasks, including shaft repair, bearing replacement, and dynamic balancing to minimize vibration and ensure motor efficiency., • Develop and lead the field services division, including laser alignment, vibration analysis, and preventive maintenance for industrial clients., • Train technicians in field service techniques, such as troubleshooting, predictive maintenance, and advanced diagnostics (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography)., • Experience: Minimum 5–10 years in electric repair (motor repair preferred), with expertise in AC/DC motors (0.5hp–5000hp), rewinding, and machining. Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience with field services (laser alignment, vibration analysis) is a plus., • Technical Skills:, • Strong knowledge of electrical theory, motor design, and troubleshooting (e.g., multimeters, AWA analyzers, surge testers)., • Proficiency in rewinding processes, including coil design, insulation, and VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) systems., • Familiarity with machining (e.g., shaft repair, bearing replacement, dynamic balancing) and field service tools (e.g., laser alignment, vibration analysis equipment)., • Certifications: Preferred certifications include EASA, NETA, or vibration analysis (e.g., ISO 18436-2). OSHA safety training is a plus., • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage teams, prioritize tasks, and drive operational efficiency. Strong communication skills for customer interactions and team coordination., • Education: Technical degree or diploma in electrical/mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
