Job Description Job Title: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining aircraft ground support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will perform complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic work on a variety of equipment, using both traditional tools and diagnostic software. This position offers a contract-to-hire path with clear opportunities for growth and skills development. Responsibilities • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures on aircraft ground support equipment., • Perform complex diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance work on customer-owned and company-owned equipment., • Identify and repair engine mechanical issues on diesel, gas, and LP engines., • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems using appropriate schematics and diagnostic methods., • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic start systems using necessary schematics., • Utilize diagnostic software to troubleshoot Powertrain Management Systems and related components., • Perform preventive maintenance, including lubrication, inspections, and adjustments, to minimize equipment downtime., • Complete vehicle repair orders and all related documentation accurately and thoroughly to maintain quality and compliance standards., • Use hand tools and provided equipment safely and effectively while performing all repair and maintenance tasks., • Communicate safety concerns, equipment issues, and customer service requests clearly and promptly to management., • Follow all applicable safety, regulatory, and company procedures while working in an airport and shop environment., • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support operations and customer needs. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance, including repair and service., • Hands-on experience working with ground support equipment or similar heavy-duty equipment., • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, including mechanical and fuel system issues., • Experience working with gas and LP engines and performing related diagnostics and repairs., • Ability to perform preventive maintenance, including lubrication, inspections, and adjustments., • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical systems using schematics and diagnostic techniques., • Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, and valves., • Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic start systems and related components., • Familiarity with using diagnostic software to troubleshoot Powertrain Management Systems., • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, schematics, and service manuals., • Competence in completing repair orders and service documentation accurately and on time., • Education: High school diploma or equivalent., • At least 2 or more years of related experience in a mechanic, lube tech, diesel tech, or similar maintenance role., • Valid driver’s license and ability to comply with applicable DOT policies., • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued ID badge in accordance with airport contract requirements., • Ability to meet FAA-related compliance requirements, including drug testing and back ground checks., • Ability to provide and use a basic hand tool set; comfort working with hand tools in a shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Technical certification or diploma in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment technology is preferred., • ASE certification is preferred and considered a strong asset., • Experience as a lube technician or diesel technician performing routine service and preventive maintenance., • back ground in troubleshooting engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems on heavy equipment or vehicles., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also collaborate effectively with a team., • Willingness to learn and adapt to new diagnostic tools, technologies, and procedures., • Positive attitude and strong work ethic, with performance and reliability that support transition to direct hire. Work Environment This position is based in a ground support equipment environment that supports airport operations, combining shop work with exposure to active airfield conditions. You will work primarily on the 1st shift, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through the workweek, with the possibility of overtime depending on operational needs, though it is not guaranteed. The role involves hands-on mechanical work using a basic hand tool set that you provide, while power tools and specialized equipment are supplied on site. You can expect to work around diesel, gas, and LP engines, as well as hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, often in and around large equipment. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to airport and regulatory requirements, and compliance with all applicable policies, including those related to back ground checks and other regulatory standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reno, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
