We are currently seeking a temporary Public Works Supervisor to act as a senior-level Cemetery maintenance supervisor for operations. This role is integral to the smooth and respectful operation of our cemetery, ensuring that all groundskeeping and maintenance tasks are performed efficiently and compassionately. As the Public Works Supervisor, the ideal candidate will lead a dedicated team responsible for the upkeep and beautification of the cemetery grounds, playing a pivotal role in maintaining its serene and dignified environment. This position requires a blend of strong leadership, organizational skills, and empathy, as you will be overseeing both routine tasks and the coordination of burial services. Through detailed planning and supervision, you will ensure that the cemetery team meets the highest standards of care and professionalism. The Public Works Supervisor will also be involved in all aspects of winter maintenance including but not limited to supervision and maintenance of clearing streets, sidewalks, bike lanes and walking paths. The primary responsibilities of this position include maintaining the standards set for the cemetery, landscaping and burial tasks, maintaining planting beds, overseeing planting of perennial and annual flowers; and employing necessary computer skills related to the cemetery database, parts inventory, ordering equipment and supplies, and communicating with the public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Directs a work force composed of working supervisors, skilled crafts persons, and laborers who perform a variety of skilled and manual labor tasks., • Supervise the maintenance of cemetery grounds and help maintain equipment and facilities., • Assist in the sale of cemetery plots and services., • Collect and record burial information provided by either family or Funeral homes., • Provide an understanding and caring environment for all visitors with questions, concerns, or complaints., • Communicate with funeral homes as well as families, contractors and co-workers regarding the arrangements and assistance of burial services and disinterment., • Prepare burial service opening and closings for cremated ashes, infant burials, and entombment interments., • Conduct preventive maintenance on motorized equipment, • Keeping an inventory of tools, motorized and nonmotorized, • Directs the operation and general maintenance of equipment, such as, but not limited to trucks, mowers, blowers, tractors, tractor attachments, sidewalk snow clearing equipment, vehicles, loaders, as well as the use of relevant small equipment and tools., • Develops schedules and work plans in coordination with managers, other supervisors, vendors, maintenance and construction contractors., • Manages work orders. Responds to requests for service from customers and city constituents., • Tracks daily records related to labor, materials, tools, and safety equipment inventory., • Responds to any emergency assignments as directed., • In all areas of responsibility, provides sound technical instruction and training, motivates employees, manages employee performance, can independently solve problems, and ensures safe work practices., • Functions as an integral part of the snow/salt operations management team., • Perform other job duties as assigned Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Must have at least five years of experience in the core functional areas of the position., • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience strongly preferred., • High School education or GED equivalent strongly preferred. Advanced coursework or certifications in a related field preferred., • Demonstrated skills and experience with verbal and written communications, applicable mathematics, business use of computers, OSHA, and experience coordinating and using cemetery, filing systems., • Ability to work and be proficient in such computer programs like but not limited to Excel, Microsoft Word, Seeclickfix. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:, • Must be able to lift between 25 and 50 pounds. The performance of moderately demanding tasks, including but not limited to bending, lifting, pulling, stretching, pushing, climbing, dragging, and sustained walking. WORK ENVIRONMENT:, • Exposure to all weather conditions. Work in a moderate to high noise level environment caused by sound of machinery or powered equipment being used. Occasional odor may occur during the course of work. Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations as well as dress code policies. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:, • A valid Commercial Driver's License Classification B is required within one year of hire., • Applicants who do not have a CDL must possess a current and valid Class D Driver's License., • The Department will support new hires working to obtain a CDL by providing access to training at a certified training center as well as on-the-job practical experience., • Candidates who already possess a current and valid Commercial Driver's License Classification B must:, • Present a valid Department of Transportation medical certification., • Participate in an on-road driving assessment as part of the interview process., • Applicants must possess a satisfactory driving record upon hire., • Candidates must provide, upon interview, a copy of their unattested driving record, obtainable at the RMV and dated within the previous six months., • Additional Pay, • Additional hourly compensation for the attainment of the following certifications: Playground Safety Inspector, MCLP and certain computer proficiencies., • Additional hourly compensation during overtime hours., • Additional stipends are associated with Hoisting License and bilingual pay.
