Job Description Patient Access Technician Location: Norfolk VA Position Summary • 8a-430p, • 8a-430p and every other weekend, • 9a-530 and every other weekend, • Greets and assists patients and visitors upon arrival while providing excellent customer service, • Registers patients accurately using electronic systems in a fast‑paced hospital environment, • Performs quick registration in the Emergency Department by collecting patient name, date of birth, and basic demographics to expedite triage, • Completes bedside registration for Emergency Department patients including insurance verification, co‑payment collection, authorization entry, and demographic updates, • Performs full registration for higher‑acuity Emergency Department patients and mental health cases, • Registers inpatient surgical and hospital admission patients through the Admitting Department, • Verifies insurance coverage, collects co‑payments, and obtains patient signatures on treatment and financial obligation forms, • Cross‑trained to register patients in the laboratory as needed, • Supports high patient volume and multiple registration locations based on operational needs, • Works closely with nursing, clinical, and ancillary staff to ensure timely and accurate patient access, • Must be comfortable working in a high‑acuity environment with exposure to trauma, mental health cases, deaths, and infectious diseases, • Have to be able to work in high volume and high pressure environment, • 1–2 years of healthcare administrative experience (patient access, registration, front desk, scheduling, or admitting), • Strong customer service, communication, and computer skills, • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment, • Emergency Department, hospital admitting, or EPIC EMR experience preferred Entry Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Norfolk, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
