The Plant Facilities are here to provide our crews and customers with all of the quality materials they need to get their jobs completed at a low cost. We have two facilities - North Charleston and Summerville. Each facility consists of an asphalt plant, rail unloading facility, and rap crusher. Job Overview: The Plant Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our industrial plant facilities. This position involves a combination of technical and problem-solving skills to maintain, repair, and install plant equipment and systems. The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for planned, preventive, and corrective maintenance operations to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity. Responsibilities: • Performing Maintenance and Repairs: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair malfunctions in plant machinery, equipment, and systems, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and process control systems. This may involve reading technical manuals and utilizing computer software for diagnostics., • Preventive Maintenance: Implement and execute preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure optimal efficiency and safety. This includes performing routine tasks like cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting machinery., • Inspecting and Monitoring: Regularly inspect machinery and equipment to identify potential issues and ensure they meet safety and performance standards., • Installation: Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems., • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and ensure a clean and safe work environment. Strength and Lifting: • Lifting and carrying: Frequently lifting and/or moving moderate to heavy objects (often up to 50 pounds, with some situations requiring the ability to handle up to 100 pounds with assistance)., • Pushing and pulling: Exerting muscle force to push or pull equipment, tools, and machinery., • Standing and walking: Standing or walking for long periods, often on uneven surfaces., • Climbing: Climbing ladders and stairs and working from elevated platforms or confined spaces., • Bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching: Performing tasks that require bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling to access equipment and perform repairs., • Manual dexterity: Using hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls., • Hand-eye coordination: Using tools, manipulating instruments with precision, and assembling objects., • Vision: Close vision for detailed work, distance vision for observing surroundings, depth perception for judging distances, and the ability to distinguish colors (e.g., for color-coded pipes or wiring)., • Working conditions: May involve working in various conditions, including extreme temperatures (hot and cold), noisy environments, dusty or dirty areas, and potential exposure to chemicals or other hazardous substances. Power Tools: · Drills: Cordless drills for various tasks. · Grinders: For sharpening, cutting, and smoothing materials. · Impact tools: For tightening and loosening bolts and fasteners. · Cut-off and band saws: For cutting materials. · Reciprocating saws: For difficult cuts in hard-to-reach areas. Plant maintenance technicians work in diverse and sometimes challenging environmental conditions, depending on the specific facility and tasks. Typical Environmental Conditions: • Exposure to varying temperatures: Technicians may work in environments with extreme temperatures, including hot and cold conditions. Working outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain, heat and cold temperatures., • Noise and Vibration: Machinery and equipment can produce high levels of noise and vibration, potentially impacting hearing and comfort., • Working in Confined and Difficult Spaces: Accessing equipment for maintenance may require working in confined spaces, tight areas, or at heights, including on ladders and elevated platforms.
