Job Description Job Title: Machine Operator Pay: 27 Shift: 1st or 2nd Job Description Operate and set up a variety of fabrication machinery, including press brakes, lasers, CNC mills, PEM equipment, plasma cutters, lathes, and mills, to produce high-quality sheet metal components. Use computers, CAD programs, basic hand tools, and measurement instruments to support production, inspect parts for defects and adherence to quality standards, and perform routine maintenance on machinery. Collaborate closely with production leads to meet production demands and follow established schedules while ensuring safe and efficient machine operation. Responsibilities • Set up and operate fabrication machinery such as press brakes, lasers, CNC mills, PEM equipment, plasma cutters, punch presses, lathes, and mills to produce sheet metal parts., • Configure machine tooling, including speeds, feeds, and tooling setups, to meet production requirements and quality standards., • Use computers and CAD programs to interpret work instructions, part designs, and production requirements., • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure components are produced to the correct specifications and tolerances., • Use basic measurement instruments, including tape measures, to verify that components meet required dimensions and quality standards., • Inspect production parts for defects, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality, and take corrective action when needed., • Perform routine maintenance on machinery to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operation., • Troubleshoot machine and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production flow., • Communicate effectively with production leads to understand priorities, meet production demands, and follow established schedules., • Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area., • Train on first shift as required to learn equipment, processes, and company standards. Essential Skills • Experience in sheet metal fabrication and production environments., • Ability to set up and operate fabrication machinery, including press brakes, lasers, CNC mills, PEM equipment, plasma cutters, punch presses, lathes, and mills., • Knowledge of machine tooling, including speeds, feeds, and tooling setup for various fabrication processes., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to produce parts to specification., • Ability to use basic measurement instruments, including reading a tape measure to the 1/16 of an inch, to verify component dimensions., • Comfort using computers and CAD programs in support of fabrication and production work., • Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve machine and process issues., • Willingness to train on first shift to learn equipment and production processes., • Attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality standards in a fabrication environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience operating laser cutting equipment, including Trumpf laser systems., • Bckground in laser operation and laser production processes., • Familiarity with sheet metal punch press operations and press brake setups., • Ability to work with basic hand tools and shop equipment safely and effectively., • Strong communication skills for coordinating with production leads and team members., • Motivation to grow within a long-term employment opportunity and take on additional responsibilities over time. Work Environment Work in a fabrication shop environment that is non–climate controlled and focused on sheet metal production. The role involves regular use of fabrication machinery such as press brakes, lasers, CNC mills, PEM equipment, plasma cutters, punch presses, lathes, and mills, along with computers, CAD programs, measurement tools, and basic hand tools. You will train on first shift, collaborate closely with production leads, and operate within a busy, hands-on shop setting where safety, quality, and productivity are priorities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
