Job DescriptionJob Title: Phlebotomist II – NW Portland Job Description This Phlebotomist II role focuses on providing high-quality specimen collection and exceptional patient care in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will greet patients, perform venipuncture and other specimen collections, process and store samples according to strict protocols, and support accurate test ordering and documentation. The position requires strong technical phlebotomy skills, attention to detail, and a patient-first mindset, along with the ability to deliver excellent customer service and collaborate effectively with the laboratory team. Responsibilities • Greet patients as they arrive at the laboratory and provide a professional, courteous, and reassuring experience., • Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients, including blood, urine, and fecal collections as required., • Perform blood draws using straight needles, butterfly needles, syringes, and other appropriate devices, demonstrating proper technique and ensuring patient comfort and safety., • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocols, maintaining specimen integrity at all times., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, ensuring all orders and labels are accurate and complete., • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols., • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against orders to ensure 100% accuracy before processing or transport., • Package specimens for transport according to protocol, including placing samples in appropriate containers or tubes and maintaining required temperatures., • Store specimen samples at the proper temperature and follow specific procedures to preserve specimen integrity for testing., • Understand and fully interpret physicians’ orders to ensure correct tests and procedures are performed., • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and follow all safety, decontamination, and infection control procedures., • Record maintenance data, perform decontamination tasks, and document all required quality and safety checks., • Update and maintain accurate patient information in laboratory systems and related documentation., • Answer telephone calls promptly and professionally, and read or communicate laboratory results as appropriate to satisfy inquiries in accordance with policy., • Prepare collection sites, including proper patient identification, site cleansing, and equipment setup prior to specimen collection., • Handle insurance and billing-related tasks associated with laboratory services, ensuring accurate information and processing., • Process samples through the laboratory workflow, from collection to final preparation for testing or transport., • Provide excellent customer service to patients, demonstrating a patient-first mindset and a positive, supportive attitude., • Participate in and complete annual department trainings and other required educational sessions., • Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance, punctuality, and adherence to assigned schedules., • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, contribute to a positive team environment, and take initiative to assist where needed.Essential Skills, • At least 1 year of phlebotomy and venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting., • Proficiency in performing blood draws using straight needles, butterfly needles, syringes, and other venipuncture devices., • Demonstrated experience with specimen collection, including blood, urine, and fecal samples as required., • Hands-on experience with labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens according to test orders., • Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify orders against scripts or computer labels., • Working knowledge of laboratory workflows and specimen processing procedures., • Previous customer service experience in any setting, with a strong commitment to patient-centered care., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation, communication, and data entry., • Understanding of and ability to comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and safety standards., • High School Diploma or GED., • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of specimen handling and documentation., • Ability to take feedback well and demonstrate an eagerness to learn and improve., • Positive, hardworking attitude with a willingness to take initiative and The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., supporting a steady weekday workflow. You will work in a fast-paced environment that requires frequent interaction with patients, clinicians, and laboratory staff. The position involves regular use of phlebotomy equipment such as straight needles, butterfly needles, syringes, and collection tubes, as well as centrifuges and other specimen processing tools. You will handle blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens, following strict safety, decontamination, and infection control protocols in compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations. The work requires standing for periods of time, moving between patient areas and the lab, and carefully managing specimen storage and transport conditions, including temperature-controlled environments. You will use computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite to update patient information, verify orders, and support documentation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.11/hr.
