Job Description Position Summary The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients seeking orthopedic care. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while managing patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and administrative support functions. The ideal candidate has experience in an orthopedic setting and possesses a strong understanding of musculoskeletal services, referrals, prior authorizations, and specialty scheduling. Key Responsibilities Patient Registration & Scheduling • Greet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner., • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments for orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants, and physical therapy providers., • Coordinate appointments for consultations, follow-up visits, imaging studies, injections, and surgical procedures., • Collect and accurately enter patient demographic and insurance information into the electronic medical record (EMR) system., • Maintain provider schedules and optimize appointment availability. Insurance Verification & Authorization • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to patient visits., • Obtain and process referrals and prior authorizations for orthopedic services, imaging studies, and surgical procedures., • Communicate insurance requirements and financial responsibilities to patients., • Ensure all required documentation is obtained before appointments and procedures. Patient Access & Customer Service • Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, referring physicians, and insurance companies., • Answer incoming phone calls and respond to patient inquiries regarding appointments, referrals, and treatment services., • Provide patients with instructions regarding appointments, testing, and pre-operative requirements., • Address patient concerns and escalate issues when appropriate. Administrative Support • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure HIPAA compliance., • Process patient forms, medical records requests, and other administrative documentation., • Assist with front-desk operations, including patient check-in and check-out procedures., • Collect copayments, deductibles, and outstanding balances when applicable., • Support office workflow and contribute to efficient clinic operations. Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred., • Minimum of 1–3 years of patient access, medical receptionist, or front-office experience in an orthopedic, musculoskeletal, or specialty medical practice., • Knowledge of orthopedic terminology, procedures, imaging, and surgical scheduling preferred., • Experience verifying insurance benefits and obtaining prior authorizations., • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and practice management software., • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills., • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment., • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.Company DescriptionThe Bachrach Group (TBG) is a New York-based staffing and recruiting agency founded in 1974 by Richard Bachrach.
