This position involves a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain equipment and infrastructure related to the collection, transportation, storage, and treatment of water and wastewater systems. What you’ll be doing: • Assist with maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, and facilities, • Perform routine preventative maintenance and building upkeep, • Respond to emergency callouts and participate in on-call rotation, • Operate District vehicles and transport tools, equipment, and personnel, • Maintain accurate records, tools, and safety standards, • Support other teams and perform general duties as neededIf you’re someone who is:, • Hardworking and takes pride in doing the job right, • Punctual and dependable, with a strong sense of responsibility, • Eager to learn and grow your skills in a hands-on environment, • Team-oriented, but also able to work independently when needed, • Safety-conscious and attentive to detail, • Responds to emergency callouts. Must be able to respond to District facilities within 45 minutes while on-call., • Assists Maintenance Mechanic, Instrument/ Electrical Technician in maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, structural, and grounds maintenance., • Performs routine building maintenance work., • Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures., • Enters and exits confined spaces such as underground vaults and manholes., • Performs routine preventative maintenance and adjustments to equipment., • Keeps maintenance and inventory records on spare parts and equipment., • Performs janitorial and housekeeping duties as required., • Loads, unloads, and transports equipment and personnel in District vehicles to a variety of work sites., • Maintains their assigned tools and equipment., • Assists other sections as needed to complete the goals of the organization., • Perform other duties and special assignments which may be outside the primary areas of employment., • Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate., • Performs and completes maintenance work order requests., • Works outside of normal schedule when required, including on-call rotation.Desired Minimum Qualifications, • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required., • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record., • Must be at least eighteen (18+) years of age.Special RequirementsMaintenance Technician I, • Must be able to respond to District Facilities within approximately 45 minutes while on emergency on-call. (This will be at the Treatment Plant Maintenance Lead’s discretion if this duty is assigned.), • Meet and maintain the physical and fitness test requirements for wearing a SCBA within 1 month of date of hire., • Availability to work during non-scheduled hours when necessary., • One year of experience in a related field.Necessary Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities, • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing., • Work independently with minimal supervision, while also taking direction and contributing as a collaborative, team-oriented employee., • Willing to assist wherever needed and adapt to changing priorities, conditions, and circumstances., • Work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives., • Operate and monitor a variety of hand tools, power tools, and process standby equipment in a safe and effective manner., • Perform strenuous physical labor in adverse or challenging conditions, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive motions., • Demonstrate a strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems, with the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment malfunctions., • Accurately maintain maintenance and inventory records, using computers and mobile devices (e.g., iPad) to log work orders and tasks in an asset management system., • Read and interpret maps, schematics, and technical drawings., • Become certified for confined space entry and safely perform occasional work in underground vaults, manholes, and similar environments., • Experience in mechanical maintenance is preferred, with a willingness and ability to continue learning and developing new skills., • Follow through on assigned tasks and exercise sound independent judgment when completing responsibilities.Tools and Equipment Used, • Personal protective equipment, • Industrial machinery and equipment: pumps, motors, blowers, and power supplies, • Technical literature, blueprints, and operational & maintenance manuals, • Power and hand tools typically used in equipment maintenance, • Gas and electric welding equipment, • Motor vehicles, including snowplows and tractor-trailer rigs, • Gas detection monitors, fall arresters, and other safety equipment, • Computer software and hardware While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside-weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/ or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, traffic, toxic, or caustic chemicals. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors during all seasons of the year and is performed in potentially hazardous environments: i.e. confined spaces, electrical, infectious, and mechanical hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
